We had the good fortune of connecting with Darian Sivers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darian, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It was a no brainer for me after a point. I’m a suicide survivor and after my failed attempt, not many things brought me joy or fulfillment. I’d get into these mad depressive cycles but music was the only thing that brought me comfort. Around 2018, I got to a major car accident and I was like, I have to make this work, I’m not dying with this music on my hard-drive somewhere. Even if one person gravitates to it, my mission would be completed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think it’s definitely my story. Born on the small island of Barbados with dreams and aspirations to be the greatest rapper alive. My brother used to play a lot of Down South and New York Rappers around the house, and the first time I heard Notorious BIG’s and Method Man’s – The What, I was hooked.

My biggest challenge has always been my myself. Staying positive and fighting through the depression. There was a point of my life it seemed like everyone I was close to was just dying G and nothing seemed to be going my way. But that’s thing about when you find something you love, even on the worst days, it pulls you through all the bullshit. It’s almost like your own kid, regardless on how you feel on the day, that kid gotta eat and thrive, and as a parent, you gotta make it happen by any means necessary, ya know?

What I want the world to know about my brand is, it’s about the good, the bad and the beautiful aspects of coming out of Barbados as a young man and a creator. It’s the other side of the story no one ever gets to hear. When you think Barbados and the Caribbean, you think Rihanna, hotels and vacations spots but people are dying out here. Struggling. Hustling to make ends meat. I’m that scribe who keeps his fingers moving when it comes to Barbadian culture and hip hop gave me a voice to be that small island poet. I just happen to lay my poetry on beats with my own kind of confidence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Alright. I’m huge food person. First off, I’d take him to my food spot out here called C&Ds Kitchen. Peas and Rice, Macaroni Pie and BBQ Baked Chicken or Fish depending on the preference. Saturdays for Pudding & Souse.

There’s a beach we hit down St.James, in this parish it’s a little hideaway beach next to a hotel.

Oistins on Weekends for Grilled Fish and Chips. It’s a must.

Old School Bajan/Barbadian Rum Shop for cheap affordable drinks. Don’t buy alcohol for the gas stations, pro tip.

Definitely we have a few fly hotels on the island so do day passes at as many as you can so the next time you book a hotel, you can pick one to your liking.

When my coach out of Nashville Lang Bliss came down, we took him to Chefette. It’s like our version of McDonald’s or Burger King but you gotta try that at least once. They have vegetarian options as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely Odyssey Entertainment. Peter Headley and Barry Knight from out of Barbados/New York put together the framework for everything I’ve been looking to accomplish in music and in life. It’s crazy the amount of growth I’ve went through in the last two years. I performed at the local Hennessy Artistry Show Case last December, took a trip to L.A and I’ve had frequent gigs in Barbados every since. As for mentors, I have tons of them people I’ve met along the way. Whether it be Ryan Forde or Edwin Yearwood, different people have played major roles in my development in this movement I’ve been growing.
