We had the good fortune of connecting with Dario Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dario, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I am a strong believer of perseverance. Nothing in life comes easy and sometimes no matter how hard you try things don’t go your way. But if you stay focused on what you want and use every opportunity to learn, especially from your mistakes, soon you will realize that the formula to achieve your goals is a mix of consistency and stubbornness.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I can remember I was always painting or drawing something. Eventually when I got my first camera all I wanted to do was to take pictures. I have always been a visual person. I might never remember your name but be sure I will remember your face. I guess it is my nature to see photographs everywhere I go. I’ve been doing photography pretty much all my life and I think I will keep doing it till the day I die. Was it easy? I guess it was. I haven’t done anything else other than taking pictures all my life and I think that is why I don’t feel like I am working when I’m doing it. On the business side, of course. Like any other business it is a learning curve and it is definitely not easy to make a living as a photographer. Anyone that makes a living with a camera will understand this very well. As far as lessons. I have many but perhaps the most important is that you can’t ever take things for granted. I have been very blessed to be able to make a living doing something that I love. My photography has allowed me to meet extraordinary people, travel all over the world and to do things that I never even dreamed of. I cherish and appreciate every opportunity. I don’t know for how long I will be able to keep doing it but I am definitely ready to keep going wherever my camera takes me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is tough, Miami has so much to offer a whole week of activities OMG I don’t know where to start. But we should start with the beach obviously, Miami Beach has the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen. The night life is amazing and the food of course. Some of my favorite restaurants are in Miami for sure. So the itinerary will be full of sun, good food and partying all night lon
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow! I have so many people to thank and recognize for what I do and who I am. It would be selfish of me to say that I am self made or that everything I have or done is only thanks to my individual efforts. At the same time I don’t want to be unfair and forget to mention anyone. However I think my family, my friends and all the people that welcomed me into their lives have had and still have a great impact in my life. I am very curious. It is my photographer’s nature I guess and I love to listen and learn from people. I believe every person we meet during our lifetime in one way or another influences our thinking and perspective towards life. I am also a good observer and I try everyday to absorb the good things this world has to offer.
