Meet Brittany Okossi | CPA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Okossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I went from working in a Big Four accounting firm to mid size accounting firms to a small boutique firm. After going through all of these I realized I preferred the boutique firms because they deal with the individuals and their businesses more. When I began my career about 10 years ago I knew I wanted to get into taxes and had a strong desire to help individuals in this area as well. Especially the high net worth individuals. However, I didn’t get this experience until almost 4 years into my career! Once I finally gained the experience, I realized any CPA firm is going to have you working 60-70+ hours a week during peak season. I wanted my time back so I went into contract work, where I picked up 1-3 contracts during tax season and then earned enough money to hold me over until the fall tax season. This model worked for me for about 2 years and thats what has brought me to today. I now have my own client base and less contracts and have even more control over my time and client intake.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed CPA in FL and IL. I do all things taxes, from tax preparation to tax planning, to tax resolution and representation. What sets me apart from others is my strong desire to see people succeed in their area of expertise and gifting. I pride myself on helping clients win in the area of taxes so they can focus on succeeding in their day to day business. I got to this place by truly desiring to help and educate taxpayers on how to be compliant and still reach their financial goals, after I was able to do this for myself I wanted to pay it forward with others. It definitely, wasn’t easy getting here, the path to success can be a long one, however, by putting myself out there and staying consistent in outreach success is inevitable. The journey started out scary, however, after making that leap of faith doors began opening up. A lesson I’ve learned is you truly do miss 100% of the shots you never take. If I never put myself out there and starting shaking hands and kissing babies I would not have gotten to where I am today. I also learned to set boundaries for yourself and your clients alike so you don’t overwork yourself. For anyone in that in between phase in their business journey I say take the first step, the first shot and see where it goes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to brunch at Bistro Cafe in downtown Miami, their portions are huge and the food is delicious. Next we would walk around the design district and see the beautiful Murals that Miami has to offer. Then off to a beautiful beach to relax and enjoy a coconut fresh off the tree.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jesus Christ, without Him I can do nothing. I truly believe He gave me the idea to branch out and start my own business so I can be financially independent and fund Kingdom projects. I am eternally grateful. I also want to shout out my parents for believing in me and supporting me when I transitioned out of corporate America.
