Meet David Buggs | College Football (QB), Track & Field Athlete, Creative/Artist (I’m DB)

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Buggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My name is David Buggs, and while I’m a collegiate football and track athlete at Florida Memorial University, creativity has always been a core part of who I am. I pursued a creative path because I believe in the power of expression—whether it’s through music, acting, or storytelling. Alongside my peers, I helped create a magazine that sold out its first edition in just two weeks, which was a powerful reminder that our voices and visions matter.
I’m also a singer, rapper, songwriter, and music/sound engineer. Every artistic outlet I explore helps me grow and connect with others on a deeper level. My ultimate goal is to play in the NFL, but I see that as just one chapter of my journey. Creativity isn’t separate from my athletic career—it fuels it. It gives me balance, identity, and a platform beyond the field.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is David Buggs, but I go by I’m DB on all streaming platforms. Music has always been a part of who I am, but my journey really began when I decided to stop imitating my favorite rappers and start finding my voice. That was one of the hardest parts—discovering my true sound. In the beginning, it was easy to fall into the trap of sounding like others, but I knew that if I wanted to stand out, I had to dig deeper and be authentic to myself.
That shift happened when I began working on my first EP, WHO IS HE?. It forced me to be honest with myself and get real about the message I wanted to share through my music. Since then, I’ve dropped three singles—Try Again, I Have A Question, and Through The Sky—each one a reflection of my growth and evolving artistry.
What sets me apart is my journey toward authenticity. I don’t just make music—I tell stories, share emotions, and connect with people who may be going through similar experiences. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable or different, and I think that resonates with my listeners.
I’m beyond proud and excited to announce my debut album Where It Began, dropping June 17, 2025. It features 9 tracks that reflect everything I’ve learned, overcome, and grown from. It’s a full-circle moment—this album tells the story of where I started, how far I’ve come, and where I’m headed.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s that I’m DB represents more than just music. It’s about growth, self-discovery, and the power of owning your voice. No matter how long it takes, finding your sound—and your purpose—is worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me in Miami, I’d make sure they had the best week of their life—no question. Miami is more than just beaches and nightlife; it’s culture, flavor, energy, and soul. So here’s how I’d show them around:
Day 1 – Welcome to the 305
We’d kick things off with brunch at Greenstreet Cafe in Coconut Grove—great vibes and even better mimosas. After that, a chill walk through Vizcaya Museum & Gardens to soak in some art and history with a view. At night, we’d hit Wynwood to check out the street art, grab tacos from Coyo Taco, and maybe slide into Gramps for some live music or a lowkey DJ set.
Day 2 – Ocean Drive Energy
Breakfast at Big Pink in South Beach, then beach day all the way—clear water, jet skis, and good music. After we clean up, we’re going rooftop at Serena at the Moxy for dinner and drinks. Nightcap at LIV or Story if we’re feeling like dancing ’til the sun comes up.
Day 3 – Culture & Soul
We’d spend the day in Little Havana—grab some Cuban coffee from Café Versailles, watch the domino games at Maximo Gomez Park, and hit up Ball & Chain for live music and salsa dancing. Authentic Miami vibes all day.
Day 4 – Nature and Reset
Time to balance things out with some nature—hit Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden or take a kayak out in Oleta River State Park. For dinner, we’d go all out with a view at Rusty Pelican in Key Biscayne—nothing beats that sunset over the water.
Day 5 – Hidden Gems
Start the day with breakfast at Under the Mango Tree, then hit the Frost Museum of Science or Pérez Art Museum Miami. In the evening, we’d go off the radar and check out some local open mic nights or live showcases—there’s a lot of hidden talent in this city.
Day 6 – Day Trip Vibes
We’d take a quick trip down to the Florida Keys or even just Key Largo—get on a boat, snorkel, eat fresh seafood. Total reset. Back to Miami that night for some chill vibes at Lagniappe, with wine, fairy lights, and live jazz.
Day 7 – Always for the Lord
We would Attend Vous Church Miami Gardens and grab First Watch Brunch. After a little downtime we’re going to Vous 6pm City Locations and grabbing The Taco Stand for dinner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to thank Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior—none of this would be possible without Him. I’m incredibly grateful for my family, especially my older brother, who’s not only a recording artist and producer but also a constant source of inspiration and guidance. I also want to thank Florida Memorial University for providing me with the opportunities and environment to grow both athletically and creatively. And a special shoutout to Keith Allen—your support and belief in my creative journey has meant everything. Thank you all for being part of my story.
Last but not least, one last shout out to Shakefeet (Jamhad Clark), you are the reason I started this music journey thank you for inspiring me.
