We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykola Khodorovsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mykola, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I am happy every time when I sell my Artwork. It`s the best moment – customers are happy and I am happy too. The most touching moment when I see my painting hanging on the wall in the interior where it seems it was created for – “match made in heaven”. This is a mystery which makes me smile every time I notice how cool this particular painting looks in this house. One more pleasant moment worth to mention – when my clients are coming back to get another Artwork from my Collection. That is the happiest moment for any Artist. I want to tell that the most precious reward for sleepless nights of a creation process – acknowledgment of the real people. In other words, – I am happy when people are happy with my Artwork.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born in Ukraine in 1969. I never planned to become an Artist but throughout my life I have had a hobby – Photography and Diving. I used to make thousand of underwater pictures traveling all over the world and even issued a book about diving in Egypt. I managed a large wholesale company in Ukraine and in 2011 I took a vacation and spent winter in Miami. I liked it so much so I decided to move here. I could not stop taking pictures of beautiful nature surrounding me. In 2014 I met my future Wife – Mila. She insisted on taking Professional School of Photography which I graduated in 2015. Then she proposed to print my pictures on large canvases – that looked awesome. Later we tried aluminum prints and this was even better. Mila said – why won’t we sell it? And we started to participate at Art Shows. I was very surprised when we sold the first piece. I was so happy. The city where I live honored me 3 times as the best Photographer and put my pictures on the cover of magazines and calendars. I created South Beach Guard Stations Collection which consists of 37 pieces. Each photography is dedicated to the certain Guard Station in South Beach and Stiltsville houses in Key Biscayne.
Unfortunately I was running out of money and photographies could not feed us. One day Mila started to paint with blue Acrylics – she tried to copy my underwater picture. I joined her. This was exciting! Later I tried to paint myself – and since that moment I haven’t stopped. Painting is my life. I wake in the morning and going to bed thinking of my next Artwork. I put my soul in every piece that I create.
Now – when you ask me to describe my Art – I would say that I paint American flags and Ocean Inspired Abstract Acrylic pieces on handcrafted wooden panels in Golden frames. All of my Artworks are covered with epoxy resin and sometimes I mix epoxy, acrylics and others solutions. Golden frame is my signature, like red sole on Designer’s shoes.
Wife enrolled me in numerous Art Shows and organized private receptions. I’m very thankful to Howard Alan Events which festivals give an opportunity for many Artists to show their talent and get rewarded.
I used to sell a few Artworks every season – not much. Among my patrons – celebrities from Manhattan who purchased Golden Bar Edition of American Flag, Marc Osheroff from Miami, Patrick Park of West Palm Beach and other people in Florida, Michigan, Texas, New York and other states and abroad. My dream is to open my own gallery dedicated to the American Flags Collection.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My Favorite spot in Sunny Isles Beach – Family Fresh Cafe. I held my Art reception there. Amazing place!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
my wife and Muse – Mila! I am proud and happy husband!
