We had the good fortune of connecting with David Uribe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that for one to grow you have to face risk. If you play it safe, you will never grow; it is important to get out of your comfort zone and at times be uncomfortable to learn and reach new heights. In my case, I have had to make decisions that put everything on the line. After making hard decisions, I have had to make a great effort to learn, educate myself on subjects that I never knew to advance my career. It happened when I decided to open my first barbershop, write my first book and now launch my own product line. Each have a different level of risk and in each there are hard lessons, failures and setbacks but when you persevere, success is sweeter.

What should our readers know about your business?
My latest business venture is Luxsive. It is in part a mens grooming line that includes (1) shampoo and beard wash, (2) Hair and beard conditioner, (3) Shinny water based pomade, (4) Matte Clay and a (5) Beard/ Pre-shave oil. We will be including more products to or lineup in the near future. Our products are natural; you will definitely get quality and value. Our shampoo and conditioner does not have sulfates or parabens and none of our products are tested on animals. Additionally, most likely we will rebrand our well established barbershop that is located in the heart of Coral Gables to form part of the Luxsive brand. This new brand will also have apparel, and barber related items to promote the whole brand. All of these projects have been challenging and interesting as we face each obstacle but worth every effort. One main takeaway from all of my endeavors is that grit is the key to it all and God will take control of the rest and make every plan fruitful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think the best plan when taking someone out that is not from Miami is a boat ride and park in one of the sandbars. The best thing is to enjoy the sun, have a little barbecue on the boat and relax.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For starters, my wife has always been very encouraging. She believed in me when I wanted to open up a barbershop. This had been a long life dream of mine and she was there to support me in every way that she could. For the book, she guided me and helped me find the right people to put the project together from start to finish. Lastly, with the product line between her and my nephew, they helped me set a good foundation through a branding company that we hired and did everything as perfect as possible; I am big on these details! All in all, she sees the potential my projects can have and pushes me to reach my goals and continue to dream big.
