We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayra Fyah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dayra, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was something unconscious, I didn’t think about doing it, I needed to express what I felt and it was through hip hop that I achieved it, with painting, writing and the use of my voice in rap.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a rapper for 18 years, I started out of the need to express myself, there are several factors in my life that have led me to reflect on social dynamics, I am an inhabitant of the periphery, of the State of Mexico, daughter of workers, I was a mother in my adolescence, migration questions my history and feminism has added to that reflection my position in the world as a woman. I want to share my vision of the world from the position in which I find myself, because I know that there are many more like me, and sometimes in this journey there are not enough references to feel identified, that makes us feel alone and we are not.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like to take my friends to eat in local places, in my community there are many enterprising people, who have adapted their homes as restaurants, we can find from enchiladas, carnitas, to Italian, Chinese food, in the State of Mexico are the pyramids of Teotihuacan, is a good place to visit and learn about the history of my territory, connect with the ancestry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To all the women with whom I have shared my life, whom I like to call Allies of Life, to all of them who believe in and support my work, who motivate and encourage me, to ALL OF THEM.
