We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie-Ann Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debbie-Ann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a marketing and pr practitioner by profession, however I found that I needed an additional form of income to assist me financially. I needed to save.
earn passive income and feel passionate about it. Using my hook was an easy set up, I had the skill since I was 15.

I applied my marketing skills to promote the business in social media and other platforms.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a “Jill of many trades”. I am a trained teacher, broadcaster, marketer and creative. I was a young mother going to college while working a 2pm to 10pm shift for a few years. I had so many challenges between student loans, finding suitable living accommodations and raising my son, but I pushed through. I had put my craft away for a few years and in 2009 I decided to take it up again. I sold pieces to my co-workers, plus I did a bunch of pro-bono work to get the exposure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sisters – Ouida and Keisha are an amazing source of strength and support.

Whether it’s helping to meet deadlines or getting that picture or video for social media.

Shi-Ann, my beautiful niece and model is also very instrumental in the inspiration of the designs.
