We had the good fortune of connecting with deborah dimare and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi deborah, what matters most to you?
The principles that matter to me most are doing my best to ensure clean, ethical luxury spaces. Design that is zero to low in toxins and non animal based. This philosophy encompasses slow design, emotional and sensory design. it’s all about creating beautiful spaces for optimal mental and physical health while. One doesn’t need to sacrifice beauty for health and comfort.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I was one of the first designers to enter the compassionate design movement and have enlightened designers and clients globally about the hidden atrocities, health risks and tragedy behind animal-based furniture and decor.  Animals, child laborers, the planet and the end user – the customer, suffer. Leather, fur and wool are loaded with toxic chemicals that don’t disappear when they arrive at your home. Autism, obesity, hormone disruptors, allergies and even our mental health is affected by these poisons. There are gorgeous high-end alternatives that are more durable, healthier and much less toxic such as low voc paints, fabrics with specific certifications, organic natural finishes for furniture et. that can achieve luxury and have a positive effect on the mental and physical health of adults, babies and the elderly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
the beach!!!! I love the beach. Four seasons Surfside is a dream for lunch or dinner. Makoto Bal Harbour is a must. Avra in Sunny Isles. For shopping, I frequent Stella McCartney.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve learned so much about healthy design from luxury companies that promote safe, non toxic furnishings and decor. PETA and many other amazing animal rights groups and sanctuaries educated me about the horrific brutality behind the animal based furniture industry such as leather, down and fur which then led me to learn about the thousands of toxic chemicals used in these fabrics.
