We had the good fortune of connecting with Degnis Bofill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Degnis, how do you think about risk?
I believe that risky situations are the best thing that can happen to an artist. Getting out of the comfort zone, experimenting, exploring new horizons has been a way for me to grow in every way. I like to take risks because it always takes me to a different place with new possibilities.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
About my career I tell you that a year ago and a little more I moved to Miami, where I’m playing in different places and with different musical formats my music. In this new stage I did the most recent tour of Omara Portuondo, I have played with Arturo Ofarrill, Jon Cleary, Peter More, John Forté, among others. I think what differentiates me from others is the way I imagine things. I’m always looking for something new, new does not always mean modern, I find many treasures in the music that has already been made, in the sounds of the city and nature.
I’m enthusiastic about creating spaces of interaction where each person feels a special part, it is something I always try to do in my presentations. I’m also enthusiastic about collaborating and creating new projects.
Every profession has its challenges, in my case, as a migrant musician, I have had to deal with many new things for me, not only in music. For example, I’m learning how to live in a new society, with a language and culture different from mine, with a high cost of living. These new challenges have taught me to have a lot of patience and to never give up. I’m convinced that I have come to the world to play and to connect with people through music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many people have supported me up to this point in my career. I’m very grateful for that, I would not like to mention some and not others. But I do want to thank my mother, sister and wife for always supporting me.
