We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Crowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

There are a couple of factors that have contributied to the success of Crowe Barre, Mind/Body Studio. You have to start with knowledgable teachers and their ability to translate that information to your students. Being able to tailor the exercises to each student’s needs and abilities as well as build a connection and trust that enables the student to challenge themselves out of their comfort zone and really get results. That is the main reason I have been successful as a teacher for over 20 years and I have trained all the teachers at Crowe Barre to do the same. The second is inclusivity. Inclusivity is the most important factor in every aspect of our business and brand because it brings everything together. We want everything from our studio, our team, and our classes themselves to be welcoming and accessible to all.
Barre classes are very challenging which can be intimidating to some. We make sure to connect with every student before class to welcome into our studio, to give them a tour of the space, and to discover what they need from our classes. We give them options and modifications throughout the class so they get the most out of their workouts at Crowe Barre and to make sure that they always feel like a part of the class experience.

We love watching how our members and teachers welcome new students with their encouraging words and shared experiences in classes. These bonds are very therapeutic for all of us, even more so in these last couple of years.

We have seen this workout benefit people of all ages and stages in their lives and we are so happy to offer these classes that re-energize your every day and transform your life by allowing you to be the best version of yourself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

My business partner, Julie Chrzan and I started talking about making my personal barre brand, @crowe_barre, into Crowe Barre, Mind/Body Studio in March of 2020, right before the COVID pandemic forced us all into lockdown. We both have young children and we quickly found ourselves home schooling them for the rest of the school year. Once the school year was over, we got together and started talking about our visions for the studio. It was great realizing we were both on the same page on almost every aspect of the business. In July of 2020, we started teaching Barre classes virtually from our homes. Even though we loved working with our students in the livestream classes, we always knew we wanted to be back in the studio, making deeper connections with our students and helping them with their alignment. We found our space in the very welcoming neighborhood of Newton Highlands in December 2020 and started the challenging task of building our dream studio.
We are the most proud of how we have handled all the challenges that came with building a studio during the pandemic. We had to stay open to all the possibilities and listen and trust in each other. We also surrounded ourselves with a great team of people who were able to roll with all the changes and delays we faced, and we found creative solutions to every situation, from construction to staffing.

We learned that some setbacks can move you in a better direction and to trust in yourself and your vision.

As we watch our business grow, we are excited to see our dreams for the studio and our community come to life and we are so happy with the people that take our classes and the talented team of teachers who want to share their gifts with us.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would love to give a shout out to Elisabeth Halfpapp and Fred DeVito, of Core Barre Fit. They have been my mentors and friends throughout my Barre career, and their support and encouragement have made me the teacher and teacher trainer I am today.
