We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Although they may have been times where I wanted to give up , I always keep going because I remember why I started my business. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to quit but my parents didn’t raise a quitter , so whatever I start I have to follow through with it . So my answer will always be to keep going even when challenges/obstacles presents itself .
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
DW Training is a basketball skill development business. It includes basketball training sessions that focus on basketball fundamentals, such as passing, dribbling and ball handling, shooting form and release, lay ups, defense, footwork, triple threat position and pivoting, and foul shooting.
DW Training is built on the pillars of strength, endurance, agility and flexibility.
The backbone of the program is to facilitate the next generation with player development by building confidence, obedience, and attitudes and mindsets that are instrumental in development of their relationships with themselves, others, and society.
I am most proud that I build a brand where I can give back to my community, as my father gave back to his community. I am glad that I am able to see the improvements and developments of each of the clients I train both in an individual and group setting. I am moreso filled with gratitude, when my clients realize their growth within themselves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Fort Lauderdale, if I wanted to show someone a good time, the first place we would visit is Fort Lauderdale beach. It is one of the most popular places to visit in Fort Lauderdale. It is equipped with volleyball and basketball courts, BBQ grills, picnic tables and playgrounds . Numerous hotels, restaurants and shops are alongside the beach as well. My favorite restaurant on Fort Lauderdale beach is Rock Bar. It is known for their live music, hookah, and their super sized drinks. We also have a strip called Las Olas, located downtown Fort Lauderdale. It has more than 100 stores and restaurants. While on Las Olas, it’s a must to visit The Wharf. The Wharf is a casual riverfront known for their local culinary and cultural scene.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my parents and siblings for being my motivation and inspiration to starting DW Training LLC. I founded DW Training to honor my father, Dave Williams, who passed away in 2016. He was a pillar of society and volunteer coached for youth football for many years. He also was my mentor and personal basketball coach . My drive, strength and determination comes from my mother, Renee. She is my role model and helped fund the start up cost of DW Training. My siblings continue to be my motivation everyday. They provide emotional and physical support . When I think about giving up on my business, they constantly remind me of why I founded DW Training.
I also want to shoutout my college basketball coaches, Kymberly Hope. Krystal Saunders, and Kiaundra Mitchell. From my freshman year of college, they never allowed me to be average, neither in the classroom or on the basketball court. They also pushed me to highest potential. Because of them, I went from an average basketball player to becoming an basketball Hall of Famer in 2021.
