We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, what principle do you value most?
Humility is something that I value greatly because it reminds me that we are all only human. It keeps me from making assumptions and encourages me to see more deeply than the human eye can see. It teaches me to see the beauty in all situations, both bright and dark ones. It helps me connect with other people and shows me that every single being on the earth has worth, and it is a privilege to walk alongside everything that breathes life. It motivates me to constantly seek to understand and gain more knowledge and it constantly renews my heart.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up in a single-parent Christian household with my mom and my older sister. God plays a big role in my life as an artist. He is my biggest source of inspiration. What I am most passionate about in this world is love, connection, and healing. I’ve been writing songs since I was a little girl but have always struggled with telling my own story. I’ve recently been digging deeper into my soul and challenging myself to face all of the pain that comes with being born into a broken family. What I’m most excited about is that I’m using this pain to write my first Spanish EP called ‘Sana Sana’. Getting to this point professionally has been quite a long journey. I’ve been learning how to produce my own music out of the need to minimize costs in creating my project. But it has been a great learning experience. I’ve learned how to be resourceful and how to take advantage of all the supportive people in my life. I want the world to know that I am bruised and wounded just like everybody else. My goal through my music is to remind myself and others that we are all fragile. We all need love; we all need connection; and we’re all still healing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat so dining would be a major part of my best friend’s experience. For breakfast I would take her to Dos Ruedas where you can find all the Cuban breakfast items you need. There’s also a great place called Pupuseria las Delicias that has amazing pupupas. For lunch I would take her to Sushi Sake because they’ve got a great variety of sushi. For dinner I would take her to Ernestos because the Mexican food is delicious, especially the Elotes. For activities I would take her to Food Truck Fridays in Tropical Park for some more food and good music, Bird Bowl for a night of competition, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens for amazing views and photos, and Cauley Square for a nice walk and some ice cream. For shopping I would take her to The Falls and Dadeland Mall. Then to Bayside and The Wharf for some drinks. One of the coolest places to check out is Wynwood because they have amazing art. It’s especially great to go there at night because everyone comes out and there’s so much life on the streets. Its a great spot to walk and admire everything that’s around.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been blessed enough to have had endless support in my life. My mother has always encouraged me to pursue whatever it is that I want to be. My sister has given me countless resources to help me on my journey. My cousins are constantly inspiring me by the resilience and persistence that they demonstrate in their own works of art. My best friends are always pushing me forward and have been my biggest fans. I am who I am today because of each and every one of them.
