We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego / Matías Araya Saavedra / Basualdo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego / Matías, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks allowed us to discover new opportunities and grow as a person. We remember when we decided to start my first business venture – it was a huge risk, but it enabled me to professionally grow, experience new cultures, and meet incredible people,
Risk-taking has been a defining factor in our lives. It has been about learning to endure challenges, adapt, and grow. Starting a business often means trying, failing, and trying again. To us, taking risks isn’t just about success—it’s about constant learning and evolution.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Diego: My professional life started when I was 19 and felt great passion for jewlery making and the way we connect with them. And so as soon as I graduated I wanted to see the world, and the way that we connect with it. I have seen all corners of the globe and seen how people enjoy life in different ways. So, my story connects with the story behind SKY YOUR STORY: we all look at the sky in moments of hope, distress, in search for an answer. That is why one night having a coffee over a phone call with Matias we talked about itand had the same realization this how SKY YOUR STORY was born.

Matias: My professional journey in the creative field began when I was just 14 years old, working at my family’s signage and design company. I soon developed independently as an expert in visual marketing. My connection to creativity and passion for challenges led me to generate my own ideas and businesses in various fields. Highlighting the originality of each person and object has always helped me in creative processes. This is also how SKY YOUR STORY was born: in search of the perfect gift for your favorite person. Today, my professional and creative life puts me face to face with one of the most important and challenging ventures of my life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Life has currently brought us to Miami. We haven’t explored much yet, but we believe these three places are definitely must-visits:

1. South Beach: Experience the iconic white sand beaches, art deco architecture, and vibrant nightlife.
2. Wynwood Walls: Explore the outdoor art exhibit featuring vibrant street art and murals from world-renowned artists.
3. Little Havana: Immerse yourself in Cuban culture, enjoy live music, and try delicious Cuban cuisine on Calle Ocho (8th Street).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Matias: There are certain fundamental pillars that always support me: my life partner Marcia, my family, and friends. I believe that choosing your environment wisely and nourishing yourself from it is essential for success in your life.
And particularly with this project, there was a book that greatly inspired me: “El sí detrás de un no” (The Yes Behind a No) by Alberto Sardiñas. And, of course, my partner Diego, with whom the initial connection for this project was and continues to be wonderful.

Diego: Success is never something you achieve alone. It happens because of the people who guide and support you. For me, a big influence has been Dave Ramsey. His financial advice helped me understand how to make smart decisions in business—decisions that match both my passion and my skills.

But the real energy behind Sky Your Story comes from the amazing people around me. Matias has been a huge part of this journey. His vision and leadership push us forward every day. Business is full of challenges, but his passion makes every difficulty feel like an opportunity.
I also have the support of great friends and an incredible team, including Matias, Marcia, and most importantly, my fiancée, Andrea. She is not only part of the business, but she is also my partner in everything. Every step we take, we talk about it first. We move forward as a couple and as a team.

In the end, this journey is about learning, growing, and surrounding yourself with the right people. With strong financial guidance, a clear vision, and a team that works together, Sky Your Story has become something truly special. And our mission stays the same—to create jewelry that connects people to their most important moments and dreams
