We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Landon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillon, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is always super important. I believe if you’re comfortable, and never step out of your comfort zone, you’ll never really go anywhere. I moved to a city I was unfamiliar with, away from family and friends for more opportunity, and I’ve learned and grown from it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I started doing photography, it was nothing spectacular. Just some landscape photos here and there. As I started playing around with photoshop in college, that’s where my interest raspy started to peak, and I realized I could do a lot more with photography. So I started YouTubing tutorials, experimenting with my own ideas, and browse Instagram for inspiration. Once I had enough knowledge of photoshop, I began learning how to develop a better style. I would see other photography and follow other artists whose style I loved, and tried to recreate their look in my own art. After playing around with more color, different Themes, different editing styles… I finally figured out my niche with my art. It’s all about practice and perseverance, and trying different methods to really learn what’s best for you. That’s what I’ve come to learn. It takes time, lots and lots of error and improvement, but any Experience —good or bad— is a learning experience that you can benefit from.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually enjoy road-tripping and visiting new places always. Like I mentioned earlier, I try not to become too comfortable in one area. I want to branch out, see new things, try new foods, see new locations. And of course I’d bring my friends along with so we can both experience everything in a totally new light
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I used to have a friend that I had a round when I started doing photography. He told me I was untalented, my photography was horrible, and he no longer cared for it or our friendship. So I made new friends, she actually support me. And without their continuing support and love, I probably wouldn’t be as passionate and skilled at the art as I am now because it’s been pushing me to become better over the last 2 years 🙂 I have friends all over that share my work and push me to success. I couldn’t name any particular names because there is too many to name, and I’m so so grateful for them.
