Meet D’Mauri Jones | Visual Artist & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Mauri Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Mauri, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel it was God’s calling! Before my artistic career I was playing football. Due to a surgical injury my Redshirt Sr year I had a lot of self healing to do. With not being able to move much I was able to focus on art which was a therapeutic escape for me. I gained a bit of exposure on social media when I posted my first one. Then my first commission came which lead me to start my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a painter and rapper. I am a entrepreneur. As my income I do the painting full time whether it’s canvas work, graphic design, mural ,clothing etc. When I find time to rest I guess you can say I still work in a way. That’s when music comes to play I got to jump in the studio and produce a track. I built a home studio in my house to control when I want and how I want my sound to sound. No it wasn’t easy at all. It was times I was completely lost and questioning almost everything. But faith is so strong, God is the answer to it all. Within yourself your will find him and your path set out for you, everything will work itself out. What I want the world to know about me is that I, here to impact the world though my creativity. My purpose will open your eyes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say Miami! You can’t go wrong, I mean this is where everyone spend their vacation. I went to college there so I know some of the good spots. But we would definitely hit up Wynwwod art district to get some inspiration. Grab a bite to eat on south beach whether it’s big pink or prime 112 etc. Hitting the beach and walking along the strip during the day and then at night we hitting the clubs. I would want to jump in the studio in lay down a few songs as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanted to give a special shout-out to my Hometown Leesburg Fl. The love that we have for one another is special. What we try to build is a strong community, with us being a smaller town relationships are everything to us. The simple things in life are magnified. Being able to come together and find purpose to live is what I’m most thankful for. Being able to have care in the heart and serving purpose for the next generation to come.
