Meet Domino Saints | Latin Urban Pop Duo from Puerto Rico

We had the good fortune of connecting with Domino Saints and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Domino, what matters most to you?
Passion is the most important value that matters the most to us. Passion is the fire that gives us the strength and courage to fight for our purpose in life and to stay focused on the right reasons for all the hard work, sacrifice, and the endurance to make our dreams come true.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We have learned so many lessons along the way, but I believe the most valuable can be a Shakespeare quote from Hamlet “This above all: to thine own self be true”. In music, artists have that God given talent that they must mold along the way, hoping to express themselves according to their circumstances and the time they are living in, but it is so easy to get lost on that road. Sometimes we get so focused on “making it”, on becoming commercially successful, that we forget who we are, and why we were drawn to art and music in the first place. We have learned this many times over and over again, the more we double down on who we are, and what actually inspires us, the more we are able to connect with our true fans. Not everyone is gonna like you and what you do, and that is okay. It’s not about being loved by everyone, it’s about inspiring the people that connect with you and creating your own audience, no matter who those people are. Today after many years we can say that we feel that sense of freedom, creating music that inspires us truly and we know that when we are truly passionate about our work, the right people will find it and enjoy it. Music is like water, it can’t be stopped and will break through rock if it has to.
We never thought we would have a song in the best game FIFA, when this happened, many people thought our career was over. The pandemic had slowed down so many artists, and although before the pandemic we had a Billboard Tropical Number 1, an amazing performance at Viña del Mar, and a career at a major label, signing with Capitol Latin/ Universal Music Latino, becoming independent made people doubt we could survive. The song in the FIFA soundtrack gave new life into our career and we embraced our passion for music and sports as new fuel for our inspiration. In a short time we became ambassadors for Music and Sports for Mastercard, made the Official Copa America and Copa America Femenina songs, had a song reach number 1 in 5 different countries, and scored tracks in Sims 4 and Just Dance. The fuel inside that God gave us never stopped burning and when many gave up, we rose up! Today we have learned to never let anyone take your flame and keeping that light bright continues to shine our path forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Moving to Miami Beach from Puerto Rico has been amazing. We have been able to call both spots home, and although life on the island is so different that the glam beach life of Miami, they both seem to share a common energy that keeps us inspired to keep going back and forth between both spots. When our friends visit Miami Beach, we take them to South Pointe to the beach and for a night jog to observe the city lights and do exercise in the breeze, then we can hit up spots across the bridge for endless bar hoping in Wynwood. When we want some 2 am tacos we always hit up Bodega, and when we want some weekend shopping we love going to Lincoln Rd to the amazing walkable mall. Cuban Coffee is an absolute must in Miami’s Lincoln Rd and going to get a “colada’ that you can share is ideal at Cortadito. Remember, this is the strongest coffee in the world and you only need a small shot of this coffee to get your energy up.
When we are back on the island in Puerto Rico we truly enjoy surfing and bodyboarding as much as possible, especially at Aviones then we stop to eat some awesome food in Piñones. We always take people to Viejo San Juan to walk the streets and hang outs to check out La Factoria, one of the world’s best bars. Then we can hit up Barrachina and Caribe Hilton to try both spots where the debate is still on going for the spot that invented the Piña Colada. We love to roadtrip to Luquillo and the El Yunque Rainforest, and then go for a weekend vibe in Isabella on the west coast of the island and hang out at Jobo’s Beach.
Rum seems to be a repetetive trend in our lives and both Miami and San Juan will always provide the necessary night life to keep us dancing and creating our inspired fusion of Latin, Urban, and Electronic Music to keep the party poppin.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God has always and will always be the one who deserves all the credit in our story. Music has been a gift given to us and every song that we write and sing has had a reason greater than ourselves. Sometimes we write a song and it ends up meaning a much more personal thing for someone who is listening than the original intentions of why we wrote the song and that we have to recognize becomes something so much greater than ourselves. When we think of how we met, how started in music, and all the ups and downs, triumphs and victories that we have faced, that voice deep inside our hearts has kept us going over a decade, even in the bad times, there is always a door that opens, there is always a new opportunity that comes from nowhere or someone that reaches out to us when we thought hope was gone. I think that is what our music is truly about, showing people that they should never be afraid to dream and always be themselves. When we started on our journey over a decade ago, Urban Pop was not a thing within the Latin world, dominated by Reggaeton. We love Reggaeton, but wanted to add a more global edge to the music, More pop to the songwriting, and create more fusions within the genre with Electronic Music. We have seen the genre grow immensely and it feels very good to be part of that process.
There are so many people we need to thank along the way, starting with our families. Gigi comes from a musical family that has always taught us to be true to ourselves and to do things from the heart, trusting in God’s plan and finding meaning in everything we do. David’s family is an immigrant family to the US and hardwork and the relentless spirit of a Lion at heart has always been the way forward. His family has always had a never surrender, never take no for an answer, and a never give up spirit. Anyone who wants to be an artist has to have an ability to keep fighting no matter what life throws at you. Both our families have supported us along the way and the gratitude we have for them is one of the reasons we continue to be the hardest working duo in Latin Music.
We have had a team of people along that way that have always believed in us. Producers like Gotex, DJ Blass, Gaby Metalico, Carlos Yael Santos, Echo, and Earcandy, in addition to our live musicians, dancers, and production managers like Yamil Joglar, Robert Davis, Yadira Contreras, Marc Malsegna, Gio Drums, and Willy Rodriguez. Not only have these musicians traveled the world with us, they have believed in our talent and passion and keep us motivated to keep working.
This industry also has people that are about the art above everything and continue to support artists on both the major labels and the independent side, always focusing on the music, more than the temporary hype. People like Bryant Pino, Chris Navarro, David Canton, Monica Escobar, and Dario Molina have always been there for us to keep us going understanding that good music takes time, and time is always right. Also a big shoutout to our publisher BMG and the team at ASCAP LATINO, that have constantly worked to bring us new opportunities that we can take to another level. We have been very blessed to have such a great team of people behind us from the beginning, and as long as the fire is burning inside, Domino Saints will continue to push the Latin genre forward as much as we can.
