We had the good fortune of connecting with Domonique Zen Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Domonique Zen, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Morals and ethics, and avoiding the shortcuts. The entertainment industry is already hard as it is. Sometimes it will tear you down before building you up. You are faced with a lot of disappointment. Sometimes you question if you are really cut out for it. It takes a toll on your mental heavily. I can speak personally on some letdowns that I have experienced in my few years of pursuing my career professionally. I have seen people with less training take opportunities from those who have lived, eat, and breathed the craft. I have seen people use others for come-ups, and it works out for them. I have seen many toxic and fake stuff happens that makes me question if it is all truly worth it. Luckily, I have been surrounded by people who would never run from the truth and don’t fall for the false appreciation some people have for the craft. Since my move to NYC, I have been surrounded by people who tell It like it is. I have now grown better confidence in my ability to work in this industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think I have this genuine love for art. I am not here for the followers or the clout. I want to work and create. Do you know what I mean? I am still not where I want to be professionally. I am now living in NYC and going to college to further my knowledge base as an actor. It was never going to be easy, but somethings make it worth it. I was always told “No” back in Miami. Up here, it just seems like things have changed for the better. When it came to rejection, I overcame it by always trying to better myself, continuously training, seeking help to make sure my mind was in check. I learned that not every rejection is your fault. Sometimes, you can be so good but not what they are looking for, or it might be the right person wrong time. I want people to know that my brand is about rising and making opportunities for yourself. Life might not seem to be in your favor, but don’t give up. Those that struggle the most have the best rewards in the end.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been in NYC for a couple of months now. Even with Covid, there is a lot to see. The Met is still open if you are into some serious art and for the dancers out there Peridance and has classes and Brickhouse has a training program on Sundays but you have to do pre-sign up. There is a lot to see including the famous Vessel structure near the Hudson. NYC is the food hub of America there is so much to eat up here, whatever you are in the mood for they got it. So open your eyes to everything. Everything interesting happens in the train station you can find some great performances on the platform or even the train itself. The movie theaters should be opening up soon so there is a lot to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out Bob Lasky. He is a South Florida photographer who specializes in headshots. Since the age of 8, if I remember correctly, he has been taking my pictures. Not only is he good with a camera, but he is also an amazing storyteller and a music connoisseur. I recently went back to Bob for my headshots, and he made me look absolutely amazing. So if you need any headshots, definitely go check him out. I would also like to shout out Dmitry Zhitov, another photographer who specializes in portraits. I always love shooting with Dmitry because it is such a warm environment to be in, and he is always giving amazing pointers just like Bob does. Most of the photos in my portfolio have been captured by Dmitry, and they are always complimented, so that says a lot. These two photographers have not only managed to take beautiful pictures of me, but they’ve also found a way to bring my soul into every picture they take of me. If you are ever in South Florida, you should go check them out.
