We had the good fortune of connecting with Dor Arazi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a young kid, I never found myself fitting in any kind of structure.
I always wanted to do things my own way. When I grew older, I felt that having my own business would allow me the freedom to make my own decisions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that what sets me apart is my ability to bring the best version of someone in front of the camera. Photography is my way of connecting with others and I want people to feel comfortable and beautiful so they can shine.
My art is all about making a statement. I like things clean, sharp, sophisticated, yet powerful.
The main challenge I needed to overcome was to not let society dictate my work. Putting my art out there especially nowadays in a social media era, everything is easily accessible. It means that anybody can look at my work and publicly criticize. Suddenly someone who has no photography skills can judge about anything and it can become overwhelming. I felt vulnerable at times but reminded myself that my work is a part of who I am. I learned to overcome the social pressure by believing in myself first but also by not taking things personal. I have the power to choose what is relevant and what is not.
I’ve learned two important lessons. The first one is that no matter what, I need to keep on working hard, creating new ideas that matter to me. The second one is to surround myself with like-minded professionals with whom I can learn from and work with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Not being from America, I’m always on the lookout for new places. And I actually discovered few sweet spots that I really enjoyed hanging out at.
The first one is called Astra in Wynwood. It’s a cool rooftop to have a drink and watch the sunset.
The second place that comes to mind is Lagniappe, which is a cool hipster wine garden. You can listen to live jazz music, drink wine and eat of sorts of cheese. This place actually reminds me of home.
The last thing I like to do is to drive down the keys, relax and chill at the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I started photography, I honestly had no idea what I was doing.
Then when I started learning at school, I really fell in love with it. When I decided to dedicate ma career in photography, I started as an assistant photographer. The photographer I worked for was named Daniel Elster. He showed me that photography is truly a real job and not just a hobby. He is very talented, kind, easy going, funny but yet extremely professional. He had the gift of making everyone and everything beautiful. He also had an amazing interaction with his clients. I had worked with him for 3 years and I learned most of what I know today from him. He taught me how to connect with people in a professional manner, to keep things under control, to improvise during a photoshoot, and to execute my vision into reality. I came to love my job even though it can be tough. Being a photographer is not just being behind the camera, it’s actually more than that.
