We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Elaine Cruz-Abril and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Elaine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love taking risks! Not because they are fun but I feel that for us as human beings to reach our potentials we have to get out of our comfort zones. Many times it involves being afraid and uncertain and that’s ok. Sometimes we feel like “we are not ready” or we want to wait until the conditions are perfect. I believe that most of the times these are just self limitations and excuses we give ourselves for not taking action. Something that I’ve learn is that if you wait for perfection you will never reach it and the opportunities might be gone then. However, even thought I believe “saying yes” and taking risks will bring a lot of opportunities your way, I also believe that you have to listen to your inner truth and follow what is in alignment with your values and vision. When we live in a journey of personal growth and mastery, fear and uncertainty might be a constant in our lives. However, I believe that confidence is like a muscle, you have to used it for it to growth. One of the ways for increase your self confidence is through getting used to make desitions, even when they are unpopular. The more comfortable you get with being unconfortable, the more you learn about yourself, your successes and your failures and you start living an extraordinary life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe there’s it an organization to everything that happens and that everything happens with a purpose. I was born with many respiratory and digestive conditions such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, pneumonia, gastritis, IBS… I was a very sick child and the hospital was my second home. When I was in my early I was suffering from neck pain and that brought me to chiropractic. Once I started to get adjusted my asthma and allergies started to get better. I was feeling with more energy to the point of being able to work out for the first time in my life! Seeing and feeling this changes in myself brought me to encourage my life partner, David, to check out chiropractic as a possible profession. We are both born and raise in Puerto Rico and since there are no Chiro schools there we flew to Georgia to check one out. At that point I was sure I was becoming an attorney but I feel in love with the chiropractic profession so I changed career paths. Best decision ever! Since my first adjustment, I have never been in the hospital again and never needed any medication. And that’s why I’m so passionate about helping people in their healing journeys! This passion has been the gas I needed it to overcome many of the obstacles we encounter when we decided to open our own office. And now are so blessed with the opportunity to help so many families and individuals to be healthy and express their best life. From being a recent grad with no business experience, to being in debt and no money, what helped me the most in overcoming all the obstacles was focusing on my why and being determined in making it happen. There are so many lesson I’ve learn along the way but I’m going to mention the first ones that come to me: -Always believe in yourself. -Be grateful for the good, the bad and the ugly. If you don’t win at least you learn. -Trust your intuition. -Be authentic. -Say yes to opportunities! -Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Train yourself to work under pressure. -Take care of your body mind and soul. -Don’t wait for the perfect conditions to do anything, create them. -Always give be your 100% in everything you do. -Give back to the community- Identify what causes resonate with you. You can volunteer, donate money, share your expertise. You can also belong or create your non profit. We have helped many organizations and my partner David created one, called Chiropractic World Wide Missions that provides free chiropractic services around the world for those that don’t have access or the resources. Believe me, there is always a way you can help. -Be a mentor. Share your lessons and your story! -Be determine.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Love this! First day I will to Fort Lauderdale. I will take them to the beach and then go happy hour hunting down Las Olas street. Next day we will go to Wynwood, check out the murals, take pictures, go to the coffee shops and local breweries. Third day we will go to South Beach and walk through Ocean Drive, have brunch, going to the beach and then enjoying Miami’s night life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom Evelyn and my sister for their unconditional love and support. My life and business partner, David, for always having my back, believing and supporting me in the craziest ideas and for always showing up. To my brother for his protection, love and teaching me to be a leader, create my own path and think outside the box. To all my mentors in and outside chiropractic school that share all their experience, feedback and wisdom in so many ways.
