We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own record label because I believe in owning your work and being accountable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Lil Simi, aka Ebony, is from Cincinnati, oh. What sets me apart is my cadence and how I make hard-hitting beats with lyrics to complement the times and what’s happening around us. I am most proud of one of my singles called Nike. The song talks about how many people may not like who you are, but we all are just trying to make money and feed our families despite our likes or dislikes of ourselves and others. How did I get here professionally? I networked and got a lot of no’s. I tried to get signed to labels. Either it did not make sense, or it was an actual scam. It was not easy at all. I have lost friends and associates because some people like to create music and forget it is 10% music and 90% business.
Some Lesson I have learned is theirs nothing wrong with being an independent Artist. Don’t make music with people who can not decide on projects, one of the rules of business law. Also, if you get a message from someone asking to sign you, don’t sign until you have read and understand the contract, and even if you do understand, get a retainer lawyer to be safe.
I want the world to know that on November 24, 2022, I’ll be dropping an Album called Mine Craft. So you know its gone be lit. This Album will be different from others because it will have tunes you learn from me and new songs that show you my craft. Get it, lol.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to Atlanta, Ga. Atlanta has a lot of rich history there and great food spots. So first, we would check into the double tree. Lol, shoutout to Future for making them lit. Then we could get something light and some seafood from the juicy crab. Now I’m not a big seafood person so I would have a few potatoes and some fish if they serve fried fish. Then we would shop downtown Atlanta and the Atlantic station. They have all sorts of small businesses that we could shop at. Then before dinner, we could go skating at cascade skating place. Next, we would eat something regular like Mcdonald’s because I’m not big on eating different foods. Finally, that night we could go to one of their clubs and see someone perform or maybe ill do my thang if invited to a show.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give thanks to the owner of Yvonne’s Book Boutique. They gave me hope & even helped me shoot videos. Also, I want to give a big shoutout to Zaytoven & Soulja boy. Without their creativity and videos on the net, I don’t think I would have pursued music. I WANT TO ALSO SAY A SHOUTOUT TO MY ENGINEER MILLZ & BILL BEATS OF CINCINNATI.
