We had the good fortune of connecting with Edwin Husser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edwin, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Freedom and independence have always been the main drivers for how I live my life – both personally and professionally. I’m German, but was born in Riga, Latvia at a time when it was still part of the former Soviet Union. Being part of the German minority there and then repatriating back to Germany made for some pretty tough childhood experiences. But it was exactly those experiences and the feeling of being “different” that helped me become strong in myself.
The feeling grew stronger since there was no time to establish deeper roots anywhere – my family moved around often which meant losing friends, but also quickly learning to be agile and adaptable.
My life’s been dominated by constant movement and mastering challenge (often self-created). “Boredom is my enemy” which is why I chose IT as my career path. I’ve travelled to and lived in many parts of the world (Melbourne/Australia, Amsterdam/Netherlands, Belfast/ Northern Ireland, Nice/France, and New York City and Miami/USA – to name a few) as an independent, freelance Cyber Security Consultant. After 30 years of working successfully in fast-paced, high stakes environments (like for a global bank on Wall Street) – I felt like it was time to do something different – to channel my skills, energy and values into my own eCommerce Beauty Tech business – FACE VITAL.
You can’t be a successful entrepreneur by yourself! Luckily, my African American wife, Wendy and I have a similar outlook on life and business. We’re happily married and have the good fortune of living in 2 great places – Wendy in Berlin and me in Miami – each of us lives in the others country. We both love travelling and the Caribbean/Latin American zest for life.
I’m very excited about the upcoming years and my journey as an entrepreneur.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beauty of South Florida is its cosmopolitan variations of different cultures and landscapes in a relatively small geographic region. I would highly recommend the cute different restaurants along Atlantic Blvd. in Delray Beach. However the special energy in Wynwood with its murals and former warehouses rebuilt to cool fancy restaurants and lounges should not be missed either. If you want to go a bit more upscale the neighboring Design District in Miami is definitely a recommendation.
A trip to the keys and specifically to Key West is a MUST for every South Florida visitor.
Last but not least Cape Canaveral – for all those in search of the taste of the infinite universe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I often visit the grave of a world star buried in Berlin: Marlene Dietrich Moving between cultures and countries always struggling with her own identity, and her pure love for her home town Berlin was always very inspirational for my own life.
On Dietrich’s gravestone in Berlin it says: “Here I am standing at the border stones of my days”.
