Meet Elyssa Jimenez | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elyssa Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elyssa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved photography and had been shooting for friends and family for some time. I’ve also had some opportunities to shoot live concerts and sports, but it was all unpaid or for online publications. So it got to a point where I figured I could try to take it a step further and maybe try to earn some income from my passion. It was definitely scary to consider putting myself out there and creating a business, even if it was going to be more of a side hustle, but I knew I wanted to challenge myself to do more and be more involved in the industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With photography, it’s really a matter of how a person sees things and it’s different for everyone. I like to get creative with my angles and editing. I really love photos that pop, whether they are color or black and white. I like to have elements that draw the eye. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot some really interesting things in the last few years that really helped build not only my composition skills, but also my editing skills. It’s never easy to branch out and try to promote yourself, I’m still doing that regularly. The best thing you can do is continue to push yourself and be open to projects you wouldn’t normally consider in your wheelhouse. I would like for people to view my work and understand what creative choices I’ve made or even just to think about why I’ve made those choices. Anything that gets people thinking is a good thing. I also want people to know that there’s always a chance for growth and that you can go after your dream or pursue a passion at any point in your life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost is always my family because they’re always pushing me to be my best and supporting me. I believe my love of photography came from my mother as she was always taking photos of us growing up. There’s even photos of me holding cameras when I was younger. She’s always my sounding board when I’m thinking of a shoot or editing certain photos. Also, I would like to thank anyone that has given me an opportunity to shoot in the last few years when I’ve been trying to grow and work on my skills.
