We had the good fortune of connecting with Emilio José López and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emilio José, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
More than thought I must admit that it was feeling. The events of my life led me to the need to express myself in an artistic way in the field of writing, to later move on to creating children’s stories and currently also painting pictures.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are all equal on a human level in terms of rights and obligations, but at the same time, we are all different. In my case, all my literary production, seven books in total to date, has the characteristic of criticizing the values that I currently feel have been lost in favor of a consumer world in which people have accepted being consumable objects. This would be the reason for the continuous crises and disappointments that we suffer and into which we frequently fall. The production of paintings is marked because I work to order, or what is the same, the person for whom the painting is intended chooses what they want, so I take charge of the beautiful task of putting colors to the dreams and illusions of others.
Nothing done to date has been easy, of course. Along the way I found out that big publishers ignore beginners because artists with an established name are a safe market value, and it’s less work than creating a new “product” from scratch.
Small publishers play with the illusions of people who dream of being great writers, and after the concept of self-publishing, they support themselves with the money they get from nobel writers.
Bookstores work in the same way, and prefer sales. A powerful gentleman is still a gift of money, as Francisco de Quevedo would say today.
The lesson I have received is that there is nothing like doing what you like yourself, without waiting for others to give way.
So if someone wants to know who I am, I would say someone who wants to draw with words and write with colours, because there will always be someone who will appreciate the time and love you put into it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would be delighted to start with my virtual gallery of paintings https://www.emaze.com/@ALOOWCRLI/emilio-jos-lpez-martn
What you see is what you feel first, and it would be a nice way for that friend to visit places, meet people and collect memories through paintings.

Then we would visit one of my children’s stories. The last one that I have created, “With kisses and hugs we will all be happy”, because I feel that as children we lose the innocence that we should maintain to live with hope, and in the path that we follow over the years, we hurt and they hurt us. It is a story that is dedicated to making us think that we are in a world that depends on us to be beautiful.

“Paper sores” would fill us with the passion conveyed by the story of two strangers who imagine,
“World of shadows, land of beasts” would allow us to feel the intrigue of someone who reaches the end of the world and must learn that survival is not everything.
With the book “Valuing is not having value”, we would reflect on a society that is carried away by anger rather than logic, which allows those who wish to manipulate to use people.
At the best moment of the conversation we would arrive at “He was killed and buried in Alfajarín”, a drama that reflects how love is treated by an outdated society and by the modern one that surrounds us.
And finally, as is usual with people, we would talk about how to solve the world’s problems with “The self-help book that doesn’t help”.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must admit that part of my literary work has been promoted by the people I met in the past, since their influence has allowed me to create the values and stories that I reflect for a better world. As for the drawing part, I am indebted to my father, from whom I inherited his artistic ability. A hobby for him but one that has led me to find the best of myself.
Since I started four years ago I have tried to seek the support of private and public institutions but no door has been opened, receiving silence for an answer. But far from being a difficulty, it has been a lesson, since I have learned that the steps we take depend on ourselves.
But I don’t want to forget the people who love me and show me their love every day, like my mother, or like the affection of co-workers like Iria and Rosa, because love is the engine of life. Anonymous people who are of vital importance.
