We had the good fortune of connecting with EMJIE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EMJIE, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?

The habit of being consistent really helped me to reach my mid-terms goals. As well as being patient, consistency is the key. Sometimes you can feel like there are no instant results or direct feedback, but things in the creative sectors always take time and you have to be confident in what you’re building, step by step, stone by stone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a DJ/producer active in the electronic scene. My music is defined as indie dance which offers a different kind of groove taking roots in the eighties. From house to progressive techno, my creative universe is rhythmed by magnetic vibes and rock influences. I play in big nightclubs and festivals in Belgium and Europe, and release tracks on various labels. It has been more than 4 years since I started this new journey that is bringing me unlimited joy and love. Of course, the lack of visibility and financial comfort is an important thing to take into account when you want to live from your passion, but this comes with everything when you take risks. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to surround yourself with good and like-minded people, your environment will play a big role in your mindset and every day motivation. The music industry and nightlife is not the easiest, especially when you’re a woman. You have to work with people that share the same vision and believe in a common energy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Brussels, which is a really nice city to get lost, wander and discover beautiful spots. I would recommend to have a walk in Sablon, to do some window shopping in the antique dealers street and then finish this little walk in the Parc Royal, to listen to some live music at Kiosk Radio.
Then let’s start the evening with a bite at ‘Au Savoye’ my favorite Belgian brasserie, the plus? The kitchen closes at 11pm! Pre-drinks at Bar du Matin with some very well curated DJs and club experience in one of the most iconic Europe’s techno club, Fuse.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my friends and family for being around me since day 1. My agency for believing in me and helping me every day in pursuing the career of my dreams.
And the biggest support award goes to Max for being the best partner I could wish for.
