We had the good fortune of connecting with Desi Drayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desi, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The habits I feel helped shape my success are consistency and determination. Consistently shaped me overall because if I would have stop when things got tuff or even when I didn’t have a single client I wouldn’t have came this far. When I started doing hair I didn’t know as much as I know now. Yes, the process was hard but my consistency allowed it to become a little easier. It helped me grow into my craft and also grow with my client when it comes to building relationships. Secondly, determination helped shape my success because this was something that had to work. I didn’t care how bumpy my road got, giving up wasn’t an option for me. I knew this was something I was put on this earth to do, so I had to fulfill my purpose and bring it into reality.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well, my name is Desi ( Owner of Desi Hair Parlor and I am an upcoming hairstylist. I specialize in custom coloring and lace installment. Crazy thing is I am self taught. When is comes to business what sets me apart from others is my personality. My clients know I do whatever I need to do to keep them satisfied. I never turn my head when it comes to them. My regular clients are more like family to me. They motivate me more then I do for myself. They honestly mean the world to me. What I am most proud of is how far I have came in this industry. Next year will mark my two year anniversary. And I can say that’s a blessing because not to many people can endure the things I go through as an Hairstylist and really stick it out. In the business industry there are many pros and cons. It’s not easy when stepping out on faith and putting your business at the forefront of your life. November 15 was the day I quit my job and it was honestly the best decision I made. I had to be willing to take that risk in order to move my business in the right direction. There have been a few bumps in the road but nothing I can’t handle. Along this journey I have learn that you can’t please everybody. You will have some people that will love your work and some that will dislike it. However, never let the ones that dislike it bring you down. Use that as a fuel to push harder and perfect your craft 10x more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a easy question lol. Sunny isles beach by the pier. I choose this place because I love the water. There is this nice restaurant along the pier where you can have drinks, eat and just listen to the wave hit the shoreline. I don’t really go anywhere because I’m more of a homebody but this is literally one of my favorite places to go especially at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to take the time out and thank my mom for being my biggest support system. This lady has stood by and support me throughout this journey. She has been the sunshine when there seem to be no light. There has been times where I have been at my lowest of lowest wanting to throw the towel in. Even through this pandemic when I wasnt getting booking it took a big toll out of me. It brought me into a slit depression because hair is literally all I know. My momma was there to pick up the pieces and remind me that this is just a storm getting ready to blow over. And when it decides to blow over its time for me to get back on my grind and push. She also reminded me that time will sometimes stand still for a second but when it starts back moving you are in charge of the clock. It’s what you do with the time that determines where you will end up.
