We had the good fortune of connecting with Enrique Ferrer Alcala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Enrique, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
It is easy. You can’t win if you don’t play. And you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

So, yes, if you don’t go out of your comfort zone and risk some things here and there, you will never win anything. This applies for most things in life, specially in the business side of things.

You want to start your own recording or music production studio like I did in the past? Well, you might need to buy some gear so you have to invest some money.

I am not saying you need to invest all of your life savings, but you have to start somewhere!

Perhaps you already have the gear, but you need to invest in sound treatment for the space, or you need to rent a space.

Do it, start somewhere. Step by step. Be smart, start with the foundation and then go thru the small details.

Do not fear, take the risk, it is the only way.

Have I ever lost? Yes, plenty of times. But I have also won, and that makes me who I am today.

You will never know if you do not try.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work in the music and entertainment industry as a sound engineer and music producer.

We are all music creators in some way or another. We are dealing with the art of music.

As a sound engineer and producer, I am surrounded with musicians, singers and songwriters on a daily basis.

I work with people that want to tell their stories through their lyrics and melodies, and my job is to turn them into songs that people can listen.

The most exciting part of the job, is when the song is released. The day it goes out on all platforms and people can listen and connect feels good because you know you were part of it somehow. Releasing music gives me peace.

Getting here was not easy. You really have to work hard, but it is all worth it.

I have had plenty of challenges, finding clients, connecting with artists, investing in a space to work/studio, etc. The key to overcome these challenges is organization. Have a to-do list, go step-by-step, conquer smaller victories, and go from there. If you put the effort, it will happen. And always, make sure you deliver final products of high quality to your clients no matter who they are.

As a Venezuelan immigrant living in the city of Miami, I am proud to say I have been able to become part of our local industry, working with artists and bands from the city, mixing and mastering their productions as well as doing live sound for their shows. I have found my niche and I am happy with it. I love my peers, we have created a supportive community and we are fortunate to see it growing daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I have been craving some Italian food lately. So I would take them to Sicilian Oven in Aventura. You can’t go wrong with those wood-fired pizzas.

After that, we could go for some cocktails at Miami Sound Bar, my new favorite vinyl-only hifi bar in the heart of Downtown.

If we are trying to hangout, perhaps we can go to Lagniappe House and chill with a bottle of wine.

And if we are trying to watch live bands play, Bar Nancy or Naomi’s Garden are the places to be.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My two professional mentors: Leonardo Partipilo and Eduin “Espuma” Andrades. These two gentlemen have taught me most of the tricks you need as an audio engineer in today’s industry. The books and the theory are crucial, but I believe that is useless if you do not have a mentor that can guide you once you are part of the professional industry. Leonardo has polished my live sound skills, signal flow knowledge, frequency recognition and quick problem solving abilities, while “Espuma” has given me incredible one-on-one masterclasses on mixing and mastering my own projects using the digital audio workstation. These two friends and colleagues have given me the tools I needed to become part of the industry as a professional engineer, and I will always be thankful for that.
