Meet Erica Porter | Creative soul, salon owner, single mama, and everyday student of life on this beautiful planet

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi erica, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Happiness for me comes from gratitude — having a home, my amazing son, and the Faith that life always has a way of working out exactly as it’s meant to.

What should our readers know about your business?
Myra & Company is so much more than a salon and spa — it’s a space filled with love, creativity, and good energy. My mom, Myra, started it over 40 years ago, and I’ve been proud to carry on what she built. Over the years, I’ve added my own touch while staying true to her vision — creating a place where people feel cared for, seen, and connected.
We do everything from hair and skincare to massage and wellness, but what really sets us apart is how people feel when they’re here. There’s this sense of calm and community that you just can’t fake — and I think that’s what keeps people coming back.
Forty years have flown by, and things have definitely changed since COVID, but we’re holding on and so thrilled every time one of our longtime regulars returns. And of course, nothing beats word-of-mouth — when our guests send someone new our way, that’s the greatest compliment.
We’re always looking for new team members who fit our vibe and want to carry on the tradition of Myra & Company, because growth and change are what keep us moving forward. At the end of the day, our story is one of faith, legacy, and love — and we truly believe that beauty and self-care, when done with heart, have the power to transform how someone feels, inside and out
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend actually lives here in Miami, but if we could both take a week off to reset and relax, it would be all about sunshine, self-care, and good food. We’d start with what we both love most — the beach, beach, beach! There’s nothing like a morning swim and a long walk along the shore to clear your head. We’d hit the Saturday Farmers Market in Coconut Grove for some local treats and people-watching, and definitely plan a dinner at Bombay Darbar — it’s our go-to for amazing Indian food.
I’d, of course, treat her to a full beauty day at Myra & Company — hair, massage, maybe even a spa pedicure — with a coffee stop at Iconik Café right next door to keep us fueled and happy. Afterward, we’d do a little South Miami shopping at Verde Market and Isabel’s Fine Accessories, because a little retail therapy never hurts.
I’d join her for her daily yoga, grab acai bowls from Under the Mango Tree, and cap off one evening with a stroll and margarita on Lincoln Road at Oh! Mexico. Honestly, it would be the perfect Miami week — relaxing, local, and filled with simple joys.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God first — always. Every blessing, every lesson, that’s where my strength comes from. And my momma deserves all the love too — who gave me life and built the foundation for everything I do by creating Myra & Company. Her example and love continue to guide me every day.
