We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Bermeo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Is taken time and intentional effort, but I truly feel I’ve reached a beautiful place in my life where I can manage being a dedicated professional, a devoted mother and wife, and still continue to have fun by passionately immersing myself in music. Finding this balance has brought an indescribable joy into my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My professional journey began with a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy, and for the past 14 years, I’ve specialized in pediatrics. It’s been an incredibly rewarding career. I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse settings – from outpatient clinics and home health to teletherapy. Currently, I’m the Clinical Director of a learning center, where we offer a holistic approach to child development through various therapies like OT, PT, ST, music, art, and behavioral therapy. Being part of so many children’s development and progress has been truly priceless. This line of work also profoundly impacted my personal life, making me a more knowledgeable mother.

After many years of feeling professionally fulfilled in my OT career, I wanted to explore something that was perhaps therapeutic for me, a space where I could completely let go. That’s when DJing came into the picture. What I’ve found behind the decks is an incredible sense of freedom – it’s a place where I can express myself in a totally new way. And perhaps even more rewarding is the immediate, palpable connection I feel with people through the power of music. It’s a different kind of interaction than my day job, but equally, if not more, impactful in terms of human connection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami has so much to offer, I love this city! We truly don’t have to travel far to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, which is a constant gift. Beyond that, for anyone passionate about electronic music, Miami is an absolute paradise; there’s always something going on, whether it’s the popular coffee or breakfast parties, lively beach clubs, or the iconic nightclubs – you can always find good music any time of day. One of my favorite places is Casa Neos, where you get the whole package: beautiful location, exquisite food, and the best house music DJs. Another place that is close to my heart, a spot where you can always find incredible music, amazing cocktails, and an unbeatable ambiance, is Boho House Miami. It’s truly not just a venue; it’s an entire experience! And it’s not just about the nightlife; we also have incredible cultural gems like the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, which feels like having a little slice of Broadway right here in the heart of Miami, offering wonderful musicals that the whole family can enjoy. It’s a city that truly offers something for every passion.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My inspiration doesn’t necessarily come from celebrities or famous individuals, but rather the countless professional women I see around me. Friends, colleagues, even strangers whose stories I hear and who happen to be mothers. The ones who, after a long day at work and managing family responsibilities, still pick up a paintbrush, practice an instrument, design a piece of clothing, or simply immerse themselves in a creative pursuit. Their ability to juggle so much and still nurture their personal passions is incredibly inspiring to me. In addition, on a personal note, a huge part of my ability to even attempt to pursue my music passion comes from the wonderful support of my husband. His encouragement, understanding, and willingness to share responsibilities has been fundamental to my journey.
