Meet Eszter Polyák | Fashion & Costume Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eszter Polyák and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eszter, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Several habits have played a significant role in my journey and successes so far. One of the most important is my relentless curiosity. I always strive to learn from every situation and person I encounter. For example, I learned sewing from a drag queen(Sushi) in Key West, which became the foundation of my career as a fashion and costume designer. I’ve also dedicated myself to exploring new techniques and materials, like using recycled transparent plastic to create a unique sense of untouchability in my designs.
Another habit is my ability to embrace challenges and keep pushing forward, even in the face of setbacks.
Lastly, I believe in setting high standards and being detail-oriented.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art revolves around storytelling through fashion and costume design. What sets me apart is my love for paradoxes and the unexpected—I create designs that combine extreme, avant-garde aesthetics with deeper meanings, like the feeling of untouchability through recycled transparent plastics. I want my work to challenge perceptions and evoke emotions, whether it’s in an avant-garde outfit, a movie costume, or an interdisciplinary art exhibition.
One of my proudest moments was being recognized at Cannes and working on the Alien: Romulus movie as a workshop coordinator. But beyond these highlights, I’m particularly proud of the sustainable and conceptual elements in my designs, such as reimagining waste materials into something beautiful and thought-provoking.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable. First, never underestimate the power of persistence and adaptability. Second, collaboration and building meaningful relationships are key in any creative field. And finally, success takes time, and the journey itself is often the most rewarding part.
What I want the world to know about my work and story is that art can be both bold and meaningful. My designs are not just clothing or costumes—they’re statements. I hope to inspire others to embrace their unique visions and push boundaries, whether it’s through sustainability, storytelling, or challenging conventional norms. My ultimate goal is to leave a lasting impact, blending art, fashion, and human connection in a way that resonates deeply.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d create a mix of vibrant, artistic experiences and serene, nature-filled moments to give them an unforgettable week. Here’s the itinerary I’d plan:
We’d start in Wynwood, Miami’s iconic art hub. We’d explore the Wynwood Walls, filled with stunning street art and murals, then wander through the galleries and unique boutiques. For lunch, we’d hit up KYU for modern Asian-inspired dishes. In the evening, we’d grab cocktails at Gramps, a laid-back spot known for its fun vibes and eclectic events.
We’d explore the Miami Design District, filled with high-end boutiques, contemporary art installations, and chic cafés.
For a contrast, we’d head to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach. The peaceful atmosphere, beautiful bonsai trees, and koi ponds would offer a perfect escape. We’d enjoy a quiet lunch at their on-site café, savoring Japanese cuisine while overlooking the gardens.
We’d spend the day at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a breathtaking estate blending European-inspired architecture with lush, tropical gardens. We’d stroll through the grounds, taking in the stunning views and snapping photos of its timeless beauty.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my brother, Sir Peter Polyák. Growing up, he was a painter, and his work had a profound impact on me as a child. Watching him create art and bring ideas to life inspired me to become an artist myself. His creativity, discipline, and the way he navigated the art world left a lasting impression on me, shaping my own passion for design and storytelling.
Even now, his achievements and support continue to motivate me to push boundaries and pursue my dreams. He’s been more than a brother; he’s been a role model and a constant source of encouragement throughout my journey.
