We had the good fortune of connecting with Evencia Janvier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evencia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think the first step when considering if you should keep going or if you should give up is to identify your overall purpose. Everyone serves a different purpose in life and it’s up to you to really understand what yours is. My business in particular involves making drinks, however I feel like my overall purpose is being able to connect with the amazing people that I meet through the process. Personally, even if I feel discouraged or not motivated due to a slow season or just personal reasons, I catch myself still jumping to respond to a client if they reach out to inquire about a service/product. Without their support there would be no Jell-E Shots. I say even if you feel like quitting or giving up, don’t! You don’t know who’s watching you and applauding for you on the other end and you don’t know who you could possibly be motivating. Keep going!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed bartender, but I prefer to consider myself a mixologist. Many people are familiar with Jell-O shots, but what sets Jell-E Shots apart is the E for everything! I currently specialize in mixed drinks, jello syringes, chocolate covered strawberries, jolly rancher shot glasses, and much more. I started doing this as a hobby and after time people were inquiring about my services which was the kick start to my business. If you ask me, nothing in life comes easy; well for most at least. I say this because throughout any journey in life you’re going to come across unexpected challenges and obstacles. You may think you have it all figured out, but in reality you only know the bits and pieces of it and that’s okay because you live and you learn. You may fail, but that’s also okay. FAIL stands for first attempt in learning. Continue to be open to learn, be open to constructive criticism, be okay with being uncomfortable, and you’ll get far. Understand the vision you have for yourself, set a goal, and execute.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm this is a tough one because truthfully I don’t go out that much, but I’m always down for a nice brunch with some good music in the day and a lounge chill vibe at night. So I would definitely take them to scenes similar to those.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my entire family if I could so this may be a bit lengthy. *giggles* I want to thank my mom(Michelle), my sister(Marsha), my brother(Raphael), my aunt(Tina), my cousins(Curtis and Julien), and my long time friend(Chernese). These people were literally there from the ground up assisting with names for my products, taste testing, helping with my vendor events, restocking on inventory, etc and I couldn’t have done it all without their support so thank you all so much!
