We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I often grapple with knowing when to actually give something up. I’m a natural problem solver and I enjoy challenges and the rewards of overcoming them, but I’ve found that “giving up” sometimes just means pivoting. Whether it’s reevaluating a romantic relationship that’s hit a low point or dismantling the systemic oppression that reeks from every corner of our communities, the option to pivot in the face of any barrier has always been my starting point. There’s never only one way to accomplish a goal–and more than often it’s our belief system that holds us back from the creativity that’s necessary to reroute. We must allow ourselves grace in the pursuit of our desires, and we must never stop moving forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe we all have a unique story and gift that contributes to our ultimate purpose in life. Identifying what fulfilled me and knowing what my “superpowers” were, helped cultivate a vision for my life’s work. Throughout the ebbs and flows of my career, I’ve always found my way back to a place of serving others and speaking truth to power. I have a huge heart, a slick mouth, and an unparalleled devotion to helping others reach their full potential. So I knew that making an impact on society was my jam. Don’t get it twisted though, I’ve been distracted by the “shiny optics” of status and titles, and sometimes doing the “good work” isn’t very flashy nor applauded. Nonetheless, I’ve accepted that everything that I am has nothing to do with me. I’m here to contribute my gifts, my knowledge, and my abilities to the betterment of someone or something else. I’ve discovered that many don’t share this same sentiment but I find that once you truly acknowledge that you are the cumulation of everyone and everything that has impacted you, the realization of your duty to impact someone else broadens to new heights.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge foodie and I must say, I’m a ball of fun! Our weekend adventure would commence with dining at some new restaurants in different parts of Miami. We’d pick a different location for each course of the meal—yes, it’s as fun as it sounds. With such immense diversity in cuisine in this city, nothing is off-limits. From the Caribbean mom-and-pop spots to the popular Insta-worthy eateries, we would have all the calories and zero guilt! After all that food, we have to wash it down, right? Well, eventually. Since I cherish balance and the way legs look, we’d definitely have to do some fun physical activity. Whether it’s a long walk in the Gables or even rock climbing in the Kendalls, a sweat session is a must. I’m not really into clubs or any crowded areas due to Covid-19 (and before), but I love connecting old friends to new ones. We’d meet up with some of my faves at either their place or pick a spot with a rooftop and vibe the night away.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It takes a village and in my case, probably a few. I stand on the shoulders of men and women that have sacrificed their time, effort, energy, and lives just for me to be here in this moment. I dedicate my shoutout to all of the “good” troublemakers, catalysts, and relentless activist that have selflessly devoted themselves to the progression of achieving a more equitable and just nation for all of us.
