We had the good fortune of connecting with Amir Rad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amir, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks have been life changing for me in many ways. When I think of risks, I think of fear. In many instances, fear is the single most contributing factor for people not pursuing their dreams, achieving their goals, and taking the first step forward towards something new. It’s easy to feel comfortable, and it’s easy to fit in the crowd of conformity. Taking risk means difficulty, perseverance, hard work, persistence, resilience, and a relentless attitude to whatever is standing in front of your way and stopping you from achieving your goals and dreams. When I look back at my life, the biggest and most important risk of my life that I took was starting my first business, my dream business. I was 22 years old when I opening my own personal training, corrective exercise, and fitness facility. The risk was giving all of my time, money, and energy towards a business and idea that could potentially fail, especially with my young age and lack of “business knowledge.” Although I had experience in the industry since I was 18, I was diving head first into my first business without business school, without a client base, and without knowing that my business will actually work. What fueled me and drove me towards success was my passion towards health and fitness, and my passion towards helping others feel stronger, better, more confident, and being the best versions of themselves that they could be. With a relentless attitude and passion, that risk quickly turned into one of the greatest rewards of my life that led me to grow and expand my horizons in the fitness industry. When I think of risk, I think that no fear will ever stand in my way again of achieving my goals and dreams.

We prioritize your success by helping you set measurable goals, and guiding you along the right path to ensure that you see and feel the results that you want! I wouldn’t be where I am today without being surrounded by the most loyal, dedicated, and motivating clients that anyone could ask for. These client relationships have turned into lifelong friendships that I’m forever grateful for. Without their support, none of it would be possible. Witnessing clients coming into Thrive every week and pushing themselves beyond any perceived limits that they may have had, trusting in me and the fitness coaches as experts, and leaving nothing behind is what shapes Thrive into what it has become. A family of successful, driven, and amazing individuals who have no fear, and do whatever it takes to accomplish their wildest goals and dreams. As happy as it makes me that I can motivate my clients, it’s just as amazing knowing that I can surround myself with motivated badasses every week, on a daily basis. You are who you surround yourself with, and I can’t thank the warriors I surround myself with enough for making me better, tougher, smarter, and more humble than ever. Nothing good ever comes easy. There will always be obstacles, challenges, and failures. That is how we thrive though. Through examination and identifying the problems in what cause us to fail, learning from our mistakes, and even other peoples mistakes, is how we improve and get better. My attitude is bring on any challenge or obstacle, and I’ll find ways to blast through them because the reward is always amazing. On the other side of hard work, is success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any of my friends that know me well, know that I love anything health and fitness related, I’m a big foodie, and I love learning about business, success, psychology, and anything health and fitness related from people who have achieved major accomplishments in their respective fields. If my friend was visiting me, gym sessions and amazing food would definitely be on the agenda! I enjoy traveling, attending fitness expos, visiting tropical destinations, and beaches always make me happy. Music and sports are a big part of my life too. Music festivals, concerts, and sporting events are always enjoyable when I actually make time for them!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people in my life that deserve recognition for helping me get to where I am in my life and Thrive. Some people find their motivations early in their lives, and others later on. I was blessed enough to have found mine through my mom, Suri Rad. Thinking back on when I was a young kid, my mom was the hardest worker I’ve ever met in my life. She was always working, 70, 80 hour weeks, sometimes more! She was, and still is, the hardest working person I’ve ever met, but at the same time, it was all selfless work. She did it for me and my brother. It seemed as if her sole mission in life was to lead by example to ensure that I become successful by learning the values of hard work, and so she could take care of me to the best of her abilities. She worked countless hours, taking care of the family, and never had any time to herself. I appreciate how she took so much time to help me, support me, and made sure that I would succeed. For example, she hardly spoke any English, being a fairly new Persian immigrant when she moved to the United States over 30 years ago with my dad, but she’d sit me down and help me learn how to read and write, while I struggled with it in school for years. Her hard work, confidence, and pride in me was contagious. Seeing how selfless she was, how hard she worked, and how caring she was for others rubbed off on me. To be honest, she’s not only my number one fan, but she’s one of my top motivators in this world. She’s my ultimate motivation every day, because I try my best to be like her, and help other people succeed to the best of my abilities. She motivates me to become successful in my business, personal life, and my relationship. She also motivates me to work as hard as I can to return the favor to her one day, help her retire, and help her enjoy every single part of her life without ever feeling like she “has to” work. There are times where I think I’m tired or burned out, then I think about how my mom would never complain and continue to work hard for her goals. I do the same for my goals now.
