We had the good fortune of connecting with Farzanah Angus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Farzanah, how do you think about risk?
I think risk taking is a necessary ingredient for creating the life you want, now the level of risk you take obviously depends on your tolerance and how risk adverse you are.
For me, risk taking has paid off and I definitely needed to do it, to keep my spirit alive. I do not always calculate the probability of what will happen, if I did I may not do it all.
I feel it’s better to go in with an educated guess of the outcome with whole lot of gut!
My first big risk was leaving my home in Toronto and moving to the tiny Island of Bermuda, for a new job opportunity. I never looked back with this one and ended up spending 7 awesome years there. I met wonderful people on this Island, made lasting friendships, excelled at my career, and most of all met my husband there.
I later moved to Miami, where I now reside with my husband and 2 beautiful children. A risk that paid off!
The other big opportunity risk, was purchasing a flower shop in Sunny Isles right before the pandemic hit, this turned out to be a challenging endeavor that paid off, as I recently sold it at the height of its’ success. It was an amazing learning experience, as an entrepreneur, along with learning a new craft. I loved the challenge it provided in every facet.
From this experience it gave life to my new and current endeavor, Moss Fusion Designs, while doing product development at the flower shop, I began playing around with Moss designs and fell in love with the designing and versatility of this type of product and what you can really do with it. The possibilities are endless.
More importantly, it was an opportunity to provide clients who love greenery and plants but have difficulties with maintenance due to travel, time constraints, or they simply want something different with bit of nature incorporated.
With this in mind, Moss Fusion Designs focused on creating hassle free modern designs. The material used to create these unique framed art pieces and moss vases is preserved moss so it maintains the benefits of fresh moss without the headache of care and maintenance. These benefits include cleaning the air around you.
Also, Moss is versatile and adds the beauty of nature indoors with ease. If you can dream up a design we can do it, add succulents, driftwood, or stone elements in, and the design possibilities are endless.
With our designs, simply place it your favorite place and enjoy the beauty and the benefit. I hope this new endeavor finds its’ way into many homes, offices, retail spaces and more.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I studied Business Management and Marketing in school and loved the nature of this field and the variety of industries one can work in with this degree. It offers a great deal of flexibility and there is always something new to learn and grow from.
My experience working in Marketing ranges from Branding, Management, to Digital Marketing in a wide range of industries. These included alcohol beverages, packaged goods, health and wellness along with a variety of small businesses on the consulting side. See www.farzanah.com
With this vast experience it allowed me to personally handle the marketing of my business in the manner I see fit to grow the brand and make it successful. This is a huge asset to the bottom line when it comes to business ownership.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In thinking of places to go and see, neighborhoods come to mind.
I would explore my own backyard first, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Brickell.
Coco Walk has a variety of eclectic restaurants and outdoor patios to sit dine and enjoy people watching.
Monty’s right on the water provides a bit of a keys vibe which is always an nice.
Vizcaya/,Matheson Hammock/ Fairchild Gardens/ Pinecrest Gardens – all fun and well designed for nature enjoyment in mind with easy access and simple trails.
Brickell – enjoy some of the most stylish rooftop patios and restaurants.
Design District and Wynwood – take in the art and design scene in these neighborhoods. Wynwood Walls and Wynwood Kitchen come to mind. Enjoy yummy food then stroll the walls to see some the most interesting pieces of art. As for Design District the restaurants and premium shopping experience is a great way to spend and spend more.
Keys – a drive to the keys is always a great way to explore a different side of Florida.
Miami Beach – Of course the beach along with Lincoln Rd. I especially enjoy South of 5th and the restaurants in this area.
For something different – Sunny Isles, Aventura area is a great spot for shopping especially Bal Harbor Mall and Aventura Mall
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person that deserves a great deal of credit is my husband, Trevor and my kids.
We took on the flower shop business together and he was instrumental at helping me run it so that it was as successful as it was.
He is also very supportive of my new endeavor and helps where ever he can. He is a finance pro so that comes in very handy.
The kids help me out by letting mama work when she needs to! That’s a big feat for an 8 and 4 year old.
