We had the good fortune of connecting with Fi Simler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It came down to my health. Starting my own business was the only way I could step away from work as much or as little as I needed to and manage my fibromyalgia. In 2019, I was incredibly stressed with work and my condition got so bad, I couldn’t feel my arms or legs when I woke up each morning. My body was at its breaking point, so something had to give. I knew being an entrepreneur would give me the flexibility I needed to prioritize my health.
Fast forward a year and a half, and I am feeling better than ever!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Before I stepped into marketing or business, I spent my early twenties covered in paint and photo chemicals, getting my BFA from UF. Years in art school – experimenting, participating in group critiques and spending MANY sleepless nights due to procrastination – taught me to be really comfortable with not hitting the mark perfectly. Studying art taught me that process and production are way more important than perfection. I lean into that as an entrepreneur.
The creative process is messy, time-consuming, and not for the faint of heart. I think entrepreneurship is the same way. Embracing the hustle of creativity and entrepreneurship is risky business, but it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m hooked.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a Delray local, so the first place I would take my bestie would be Death or Glory for one of their signature drinks and those fried CHICKPEAS! It’s a no-brainer neighborhood go-to for me. Obviously, a trip to the Ave would be necessary – coal oven baked chicken wings from Vic & Angelo’s and a spicy margarita from El Camino are at the top of my list.
We’d definitely plan a weekend trip to Miami Beach as well, probably stay at east hotel, check out Artechouse, grab tacos at Taquiza before the beach, and Mac’s Club Deuce / Broken Shaker, for local drinks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big, big shoutout to 1909, a beloved co-working space in West Palm. Being a member of 1909 allowed me to host my first online workshop during the pandemic, which gave me the confidence to pursue my online business!
