We had the good fortune of connecting with Maidenly Pham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maidenly, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks keep life fun! I find the the risk/reward ratio to be subjective since the desired outcome might not always happen, but that brings a lesson which is a reward in itself. 2020 started with me taking a huge risk. I left Ogilvy NY, a global agency that’s backed by a holding company to join Founders, a creatively led independent agency with a team of about 30. We’re based in Miami but have offices in Mexico City, Kingston, Buenos Aires, and now New York! Some people thought that was an insane decision since we were still in the midst of a pandemic and job security to them meant staying with a large shop. But my partner and I both felt it was the right time, the right opportunity, and the right risk. And we were 100% correct.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Copywriter, and it still cracks me up when people think I deal with legal patents and well, copyrights. It’s very flattering that they’d assume I have a profession in law. But no, a Copywriter is someone who writes copy, so all the text for advertising. In addition, we get to work with our partner or team to come up with concepts that serve the client or brand. We basically come up with ideas all day. It’s a dream job for those who are terrible at STEM and have vivid imaginations. Being a creative means dealing with imposter syndrome. What’s really helped me is reminding myself that we are all our own worst critics and to channel that energy into positive affirmations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I adore Miami and its energy. There’s definitely not a shortage of places to visit. My favorites: The Lido Bayside Grill at The Standard Spa The Broken Shaker at The Freehand Hotel Lagniappe Las Rosas Mac’s Club Deuce Sweet Liberty
