We had the good fortune of connecting with Flor Maria Dabaja and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Flor Maria, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that the most important factor behind my success, is my authenticity. I am myself at all times treating everyone with respect. I believe in my brand and care about what I am doing and this is reflected as well, in my creations.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I hold a Masters in Public Administration from The University of Michigan Ann Arbor—Go Blue! I have been blessed in my career as I have been fortunate to execute work that I have loved. For many years I served as the Director of the School of Adult and Continuing Education for Barry University, a position I not only grew in professionally, but had the opportunity to assist professional adults in reaching their lifelong goal of earning their undergraduate degrees. I served students that extremely successfully professionally but had just one goal that they had not met, and that was to earn their degrees. I was able to manage a team of administrators and professors that assisted students in graduating-it was a tough position but an amazing experience to say the least! I am proud to have had a very successful career, My father became ill and I resigned from a position that I loved to assist my mother in his care, because to me their will never be a title more prestigious than that of my parents daughter.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In a weeks time in Metropolitan Miami I would (and have!) taken my best friend to the many amazing beaches in South Florida, We would schedule time to visit Little Havana during the day to see all of the sights including the Domino Park and different restaurants. On the weekend we explore the local bars, enjoying the many successful musical talents, and enjoy a comedy at the theater. I would also make certain that they swim with the dolphins.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout is my culture. I thank my parents for their unending love and endless sacrifices and for always going the extra mile to teach me about my Cuban Culture. Through their own actions I learned, that tenacity pays off. I am thankful to my husband of 33 years for believing and supporting me in the development of Fortuna Cubana.
