Meet Florencia Rodriguez Lomeli | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Florencia Rodriguez Lomeli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Florencia, where are you from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. While I was growing up both of my parents were very into photography, and I remember my mom took photos of me and my younger sister for her film photography class homework. I cannot remember a trip we took where we didn’t carry a camera and multiple lenses for our family photos.
My house is full of artwork, photographs, and books that inspired me throughout my life, and I was fortunate enough to get to travel a lot while I was growing up, always visiting museums and historic places, that made me more sensitive and to find beauty in everything.
I love capturing tiny details that maybe go unseen to others and I love capturing special moments and milestones of others, so they can have those memories to keep forever.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always loved capturing details and special moments in my life and the life of my loved ones. Photography allows us to have a tangible memory, an instant of time frozen forever. I think that is what makes me excited, I want to provide people with that. Whether they are having a family reunion, celebrating a birthday, couples getting engaged, a bridal shower, all these special events; I want them to have these beautiful photos to look at and remember how special that moment was.
I have participated in many photography courses throughout my life. I was fortunate enough to have multiple opportunities to learn more about photography. From a film class in Leysin, Switzerland to a Summer course in Florence, Italy. Multiple courses in Monterrey, Mexico with local photographers that I admire, I am continuously trying to learn more and take better photographs. I think the most challenging part was to take my hobby and invest time and money to make a formal business out of it. Especially after moving to South Florida from Mexico, to start from scratch with no clients. And slowly, through networking events, and recommendations, start to grow your customer base. I am so grateful to my first customers that trusted me to document those special moments in their life.
I want my current and future customers to know that I am grateful and excited to document their milestones.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends visit town, I tend to try to show them the most of our city (Fort Lauderdale included, where I actually live). We would start the day having the breakfast in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Pura Vida, where we are totally ordering coffee, delicious overnight oats, and omelets. This is a nice location and right next to the riverwalk where we can go explore next. A good option is to take the water taxi and see the sights and houses by the river! Would end the day walking in Las Olas and having dinner in Heritage, an amazing Italian restaurant.
For our second day, a trip to the Everglades is a must, at least once. It is a different kind of day for visitors. After an action-packed day, would definitely stop by to have dinner at Larb Thai – Isan, for the most chill and delicious place.
For the rest of the days, we would explore Miami, and for me, amongst the top things to do is walk around Wynwood Art District and Design District which is close by. Around that area I would suggest going to CHICA for lunch and/or Bakan, and don’t miss out on ordering carnitas tacos, guacamole of course, and esquites!
Another key attraction in Miami, is the beautiful Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, you can spend at least half the day there walking around the museum and the extensive gardens, where you can snap more than one insta-worthy shot.
A fun day is always spent in Little Havana, where you can walk down Calle Ocho, and sip on mojitos in any of the restaurants. If you are more into Museums, Perez Art Museum is the right option for you and if you are coming with kids, Frost Museum is also a fun activity for them.
Finally, a Miami tour is never complete without visiting south beach and walking through all the art deco style buildings in Ocean Drive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed to be in a loving family where I was allowed to always follow my passion. My parents encouraged me to study photography and provided me with all the necessary equipment I needed to pursue, initially, my hobby. If it wasn’t for their continued support, I would not have had the courage to start my own business in South Florida. I also want to give a shout out to my husband, who has also supported me during this new adventure in setting up a business.
