We had the good fortune of connecting with Funky Matas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Funky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I don’t know if there was a crazy thought process behind it. I think it was more just the fact that I would rather die than work for someone or having someone tell me what to do. I like being free. I like my liberty. I like doing exactly what I want, when I want. My mental peace is priceless.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my industry i broke the world record for most signatures tattooed on One’s back. I’ve worked with hundreds of celebrities such as, Will Smith, Jackie Chan, Stan Lee, Leonardo DiCaprio etc. I think that just from a young age I’ve decided to just follow whatever makes my soul happy. And as a result so many good things come my way. There will always be challenges, but I don’t focus on that. I love these questions because they allow me to point out where societies thinking is incorrect in my opinion. I think we should focus on the good. There will always be a shit situation but the more you focus on that, the more you’re giving it power. In short, if you have a plan B, your plan A is less likely to work. Just stick to your plan A because if you want it bad enough, you will get to it. It’s just a matter of time. Steve-O once said something that I think was incredible and I live by to this day. It’s not what you want, but how bad you want it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would improvise and go with the flow of whatever we’re feeling at the moment. Improvising leads to the best situations in life. Not everything needs to be planned.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think any aspect of your life can be inspired by something completely irrelevant. Maybe you liked the drums on a particular song and that inspired you to paint something in particular etc. I think that anything and anyone who has made me feel good and creative inside has inspired me to become who I’ve become today. I love my parents for letting me be free. I love The Red Hot Chili Peppers for tickling my creativity G Spot, I love the show Jackass for inspiring me to be wild in life, I love Russell Brand for pushing me to become a better version of myself, I love sooooooo many things that it is impossible to list them all here. But I am very grateful to The Universe for everything that has ever happened to me and every situation I have ever been in. The Universe is incredible! 💛
