We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabe Costta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabe, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I was 30 years old when I decided to change my professional life. I lived in a comfort zone that brought me no benefit. I wanted to meet people and I just wanted to record what my eyes saw. accepting risks and challenges is what moves me. accepting to live without a fixed amount per month, made me want to understand that I could earn as much as I wanted. every risk is worth it as long as you understand what you can and cannot do. By taking the risks of my new profession, I found I could record stories of amazing people, and through that risk, I met my second role model who became my wife.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a good photographer requires, at least for me, empathy. No matter the size of your business itself, everything is based on empathy.
The risks and challenges are daily, as well as the needs of each client.
As a commercial photographer, over time, I needed to stop serving some areas within photography, and thus seek to improve my technique and application, for Real Estate, Portraits, Products, for example.
Behind every area I work in, everything is based on relationship and empathy. No is also part of making risk-based decisions.
You have the right to respond or not, to resolve a problem or not.
And that’s the most valuable lesson I’ve learned in my career: the importance of knowing how to say no.
Improving my technique, application and editing daily, I could see how fast I am when delivering images, as well as supporting small business, e-commerces, real estate companys, among others.
I don’t believe in quick and easy solutions,
I don’t believe in easy money.
I believe in empathy, relationships and working objectively and accurately.
Running your own business, understanding that you are not a brand, but that your brand is within you, how you deal with your fears, dreams, risks and daily challenges, makes the photographer “leave the scene” and only Gabe enters.
Gabe resolves.
This is my brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Fort Pierce Downtown is magnificent! The Sunrise Theater and your amazing concerts too!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I decided to take the risk and change my profession, I found out that I would be a boy’s uncle.
And I wanted to tell the stories I photographed for him.
My professional time as a photographer is exactly his age: 09 years old.
I dedicate it to him, who was recently diagnosed as Autistic, but while I had my studio in Brazil, he always accompanied me and made a point of knowing who I would photograph.
Tito, I love you.
