We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron B. Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ron B., the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Thank you for the question. The most difficult decision I had to ever make was what to do for the last year during the pandemic. 2020, a pivotal time that I foolishly once believed was going to be “my year.” I had assignments arranged in Bangladesh and Haiti, plus a speaking engagement in the Middle East. But my plans didn’t matter anymore. I was housebound and restless, like everyone else. What fueled me in these moments, rather than experiences, is curiosity. This seems to be the dawn of a whole new era, and I’m listening closely to voices that describe a life vastly different from my own.

So, I wrote a book. It is called Resilience Stories and Lessons from an Ardent Photographer. Here is the description:
Ron B. Wilson’s impressive 30-year career as a professional traveling photographer has taken him all across the United States and the world, from Cuba and India to South Africa and Morocco. Always with his camera in hand, Ron has captured moments of unforgettable history, including the tragedy of 9/11 and the fallout of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The common theme that binds all these stories together has been undefeatable resilience. Ron’s journey will inspire readers to live, learn and better understand the everyday struggles of communities across our vast planet. Photographers eager to learn more about their craft will find practical lessons accompanying every story, and non-photographers can appreciate the life lessons that come from the art of capturing the human condition. For lovers of travel, photography, art or humanitarianism, this book is a must-read.

I recently returned from The Xposure International Photography Festival in The UAE speaking and exhibiting some of my images from 9/11. Here is the link to a blog post with images and links to my speech:

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After spending the past 25 years founding and working with some of the best and busiest wedding photography studios in the U.S. and photographing over 500 weddings around the globe, I have reconnected with my true passions: travel, men’s street style, and fine-art photography. So starting “Art, Style, Flow”, a travel inspiration blog and online magazine featuring my photography, was a natural process and has been a work in progress all these years.

Working in New York City and Miami, I specialize in an award winning fashion based documentary style of photography. I was recently featured in Professional Photographer Magazine with an article about the {revisited} sessions that I created, and over the past few years I have been honored with many awards at the WPPI and PPA’s Imaging USA Conferences. I’ve recently exhibited and spoken in The UAE at The Xposure International Photography Festival among the industry’s titans.

My primary goal is to tell stories with images and to bring out the very best in every detail of each subject I photograph, I am available for fashion, advertising, travel and editorial assignments.

And my book, Resilience, is a great way to learn more about me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Fort Lauderdale Jetties is my favorite beach. A Brightline ride to Miami.
Lunch at Cheviche 305 in Downtown Miami. Road trip to Key West.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
SO many people. First my family and friends, especially Renzo Lara for allowing me to be myself and take the time to write my book.

All of my photography clients and supporters who bought my book.

I am a member of Hollywood Toastmaster Club and I want to thank all of the members for their support.
