We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemma Serenity Gorokhoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gemma Serenity, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As the host of Real Talk Real Women Breaking The Silence Around Abuse, my thought process behind starting my own business was to create a platform where women could come together to openly and honestly discuss their experiences with abuse. I wanted to create a safe and supportive space where women could share their stories, get the support they need, and break the silence that surrounds abuse. I also want to give a voice to strong, powerful, and visionary women who have prevailed over abuse as well, and help educate and empower victims hiding in plain sight to recognize the abuse and break free from it.

I’m giving forward the gift of healing and transformation that I generously received through the show, coaching services, and the writing of anthologies based on the many stories of my beloved guest speakers.

What should our readers know about your business?
My show business, Real Talk Real Women Breaking The Silence Around Abuse, is a platform for women to come together and openly discuss their past experiences with abuse. We publish twice a week audio and video shining the spotlight on one of our beloved guest speakers’ experience and business, and we also are building a community for survivors to come together and support each other on Facebook and on the forum of our website.

What sets us apart from others is our focus on creating a safe and supportive space for women to share their stories and break the silence around abuse. We also offer a diverse range of perspectives and experiences, as we invite strong, powerful, and visionary women business owners to share their stories and how they help others on the podcast.

I am most proud of the community we are building and the impact we are making in the lives of so many people. Hearing from women who have prevailed over some sort of abuse is truly enlightening for me as the host and for the audience who gets to be inspired to break free from the abuse they are enduring for far too long.

Starting this show business was not easy, as the topic of abuse is not always something that is easy to talk about. I procrastinated for 9 years since I got out of domestic abuse in 2013. However, one day during the lunar eclipse in May 2022 I finally answered the inner call I was hearing for years, and I promised to myself, to the moon, and to the world that I would do this show and that we are helping and inspiring millions of individuals to step into the energy of success. I knew that it was overdue and I was determined to make a change in my storyline to help others on their journey. I have overcome many challenges such as desperation, overwhelm, sub-optimal time management, and a handful of naysayers and haters through persistence, hard work, and a lot of support from my beloved husband Sascha Gorokhoff.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way include the importance of self-care and self-compassion, as well as being open to feedback and continuously learning and growing. I have published a video article where I share the 22 lessons I learned in 2022 that you can find here: https://gemmasgem.substack.com/p/22-lessons-learned-in-2022

I want the world to know that abuse is a real and serious issue that affects millions of people, but that there is hope and support available for everybody. Through Real Talk Real Women Breaking The Silence Around Abuse, I want to empower people to recognize the abuse, take action to stop it, and educate others about the importance of consent, respecting boundaries, and reporting wrong behavior.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have been living in Los Angeles for the past 8 years, so I can talk about that!

On Day 1, let’s start with Griffith Observatory, and when returning to the town, at the bottom of the hill, take one of the big buses that claim to show the homes of celebrities.

On Day 2, let’s visit Universal Studio in Studio City, as this is a key spot to have a VIP experience.

On Day 3, let’s aim for Disney Park in Anaheim even though you will be already exhausted after your Universal Studio experience.

On Day 4, let’s chill out at Bob Morris’s Paradise Cove Beach Cafe in Malibu, to rest a little bit and sort out all the pictures and memories of the last days.

On Day 5, it would be interesting to experience the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center as this gives a lot of perspective to the fast-paced world we currently live in.

On Day 6, I would invite my guest to experience North Rodeo Drive, the upscale neighborhood in Beverly Hills where all the Designers have a shop.

On Day 7, I would have a stroll in the numerous parks we have in the city of Los Angeles, to show that we also are simple people with simple tastes, and that a stroll in the park is also something memorable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes straight to my muse, my inspiration, my hero, my example, my angel in the flesh who after having saved my life from suicide when I was at the lowest point in 2013, dedicated his entire last decade 2013-2023 and counting to help me heal and transform from within. Together we moved from Switzerland to the United States, as he was a U.S. citizen born abroad, and he was able to sponsor me becoming American as well by marriage. Without his daily support, encouragement, empowerment, and keen intuition, I would never be where I am at today. He even got my adult son to get his acts together and be successful in his life! He deserves to be celebrated every day for all the good he has given, knowing that he suffers in his health as he was born with a rare disability that should have left him paralyzed from the waist down, mentally challenged, and dead by the age of 7 years old. He is none of that. He has overpowered the odds and is thriving day in and day out. One of the books he has written and published is called “From Victim To Victory, A Leadership Journey. By Sascha Gorokhoff” and is available everywhere books are sold. Even though this book is being updated and revised at the time we speak, his story is his story and he tells it in this book published in 2015
