We had the good fortune of connecting with Gilly Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gilly, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Moving to Costa Rica. The move provided me with the opportunity to own my land and be able to grow my own food in a climate that’s the same all year. Since I own my land & can provide a good percentage of my food source my bills are minimal & that allows me more freedom physically mentally spiritually & financially. I think everyone should strive to own land in a lush tropical location or in a place where they can cultivate fresh food all year long. Once I moved & got settled into my new community a lot of doors started to open for me as far as my diet, spirituality, & meeting people that were like minded & who were seeking spiritual growth. I started to incorporate fasting into my life & that to me has also helped me with my success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work career has mostly been in the sales/customer service field. I sold cruise vacations for 10 years & I really enjoyed it because talking to people about vacation packages is a great conversation. Now that I live in Costa Rica I’ve delved into the realm of healing & health. That has led me into managing a retreat center. The retreat center I manage usually host yoga, health, wellness & longevity retreats. This allows me to meet like minded people that are on the same path as myself. My art comes from the love frequency. My passion for spreading love & unity helped me start my clothing brand “Love Apparel”. I use the brand to spread awareness of the power of love in hopes of a more loving compassionate & unified planet in all aspects.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since i live in a tropical rainforest, the 1st place I would take them is on a hike to a natural spring waterfall. Usually starting the day off with some type of nature to connect with the environment. Waterfalls beach walks are a must. I love Caribbean food so I would take them to my favorite restaurant named “Tamaras” located in Puerto Viejo for authentic food made by locals & fresh fruit smoothies. All the night vibes are on the beach so at night we would step out to listen to Afro beats/reggae music at a popular beach bar named salsa brava. I would also rent a boat & ride to Costa Rica’s border to a private beach/ permaculture farm named punta Mona where they live off the land & grow all their own food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad! My dad is my biggest supporter & challenges me to be the best me! He deserves all the credit for my success. He told me when I was a kid that “you reap what you sow” in all aspects of life. That stuck with me & lead me on the natural path of wanting to cultivate my own food & be fully self sufficient & sustainable. Him being from Jamaica showed him at a young age how to plant & harvest fresh food & the independence it gives u to be healthy & depend on nature for our consumption. These things stuck with me.
