We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanna Jaspid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giovanna, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes/affirmations is: “Small daily seemingly insignificant improvements, when done consistently over time, yield staggering results” by Robin Sharma. As a small business owner and mother, I have so many daily tasks to do and cannot tackle everything everyday (even though I try and wish I could), that at the end can lead to frustration. It is important to have a work-life balance and understand that everything takes time.
This quote helps me to stay positive and to focus on one thing even if it seems small and insignificant. Over time all these small finished tasks will show how much you have advanced towards your personal and professional goals.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated in Architecture and started a Small Business of Custom Decorative Pillows as a side job, which turned into my fulltime business.
All our pillows are made out of Designer high quality fabrics curated by us and sewn by professional local seamstresses (one of them my Mother). Our seamstresses are truly experts with their sewing and everyone that has purchased our pillows always comments on the high quality craftsmanship.
We are proud of creating a quality Decorative Pillows that everyone can enjoy in their
Home, hotel, office and be able to have it customized to their needs.
Another important fact in our business is that part of our online inventory is from discontinued high quality fabric remnants that would no longer be sold to the public and would otherwise go to the city waste, and I have been able to save these remnants to create beautiful pillows.
Our pillows are sold online and ship worldwide, I am amazed and thankful to our customers in far-away places that have found us and love our work, truly the internet is amazing!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Miami local I enjoy going into less touristy spots so I would recommend Matheson Park by old cutler road where you can see the bay, splash in the small man made beach and have a tranquil picnic with family. For a bigger beach visit Bill Baggs Cape Florida State park located at the end of Key Biscayne, the beach is beautiful, there are areas for bbq with friends and you can visit the lighthouse located right on the beach.
I would then have lunch in Daily bread middle east kitchen and market, the food is delicious and won’t break the bank!!. At night time visit City place in Doral, there are a variety of bars, restaurants and ice cream shops. Copper Blues is one that we visit constantly for drinks and appetizers and to enjoy the live music and dancing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been listening to inspirational podcasts from Oprah’s super soul, Jordan B. Peterson and follow www.youngarchitect.com online conferences which I recommend to all emerging and professional architects.
But the person that deserves a lot of credit is my husband for supporting my dream and ideas while giving me the opportunity to grow this business project slowly but surely. It has been 6 years since I started this project full time and it has been a learning process, there are many hats that I have been wearing and my husband has been my biggest helper with deliveries, marketing, accounting and so much more.
