We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Paredes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had the first interest to start my own business at the age of eight when my mom bought me a jewelry making kit and I enjoyed creating designs with it very much. From there I started to use better quality supplies and went on to selling at craft shows which was a success. As I grew older I applied for a conventional minimum wage job like all other teenagers the same age do, but I quickly saw that this wasn’t for me. All the stress of working for someone and many times not being treated well or fairly. This is what really moves me to begin selling my jewelry on an online platform which was the more efficient route to go. I wanted to be the boss of my own work an set my own hours instead.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The business I created has multiple styles for all kinds of people and expressions. There is no one type of person that our jewelry pieces appeal to and I would like the image of my brand to be finding beauty in imperfect things like natural cut stone beads that might not always look perfect or be rough around the edges but they tell a story far deeper than what just meets the eye. Getting to where I am now was not easy and it is actually my second business. I learned from the first one that if I want to succeed I need to create something different that no one else has created before instead of being a cookie cutter business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My city is called Sunny Isles Beach, Florida and it is my favorite place because of all the beautiful places to spend time at especially in nature and most importantly the vast variety of cuisine and restaurants to visit. First of all I would say it is a must to do an all beach and have a picnic at sunset. The sky in Sunny Isles is like nothing else you have ever experienced before. There is also a restaurant right on the pier that is a great setting to have drinks and seafood on the water. What I live the most about my city is the variety of healthy places to eat and among them my highest recommendation would be Juice and Java which had both a juice and smoothie bar along with organic and vegan foods. If you don’t mind going for a bit of a drive, Lincoln Road is a great place to go and walk around because it is packed with amazing places to eat and shops.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give some recognition to someone who inspired me and helped me see the possibilities in creating your own vision and thinking outside of the box that everyone else follows in terms of making a career. This person is John Grummons, a top seller on DePop who is under the age of 25 but is well more than capable of supporting himself financially even at such a young age.
