We had the good fortune of connecting with Giselle Roca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giselle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had definitely always been an artistic kid and kept it with me while I grew up. It wasn’t until I had a friend encourage me to create something for her and from there create more and make a business. Definitely was something new and even a little frightening because it was something that had never crossed my mind to do. Yet, I did not allow fear to hold me back. I knew it was something I loved to do and with time and practice I would grow and get better. Til this day I’m still learning and improving as an artist. I went for it and don’t regret it sense!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is mine. It’s my accent, my signature, what represents me as a person, my love for the little things, eye for detail, etc. I can say what I create and what I put down on either paper, chalkboard, wood, etc is all thought out carefully, with lots of love. It makes me proud to know that I learned with the use of different online tools and so on and that I continue to learn and find new opportunities to create something beautiful and meaningful. Always aiming to resonate with others through my art or pieces. It has not been easy, you make mistakes and you get stressed out at times but what matters is you learn from them. There will be plenty of challenges, some that you walk into yourself already knowing because you’re trying something completely new and out of your comfort. Now let me tell you, it is so fulfilling to complete a piece of work after going into it not sure of the outcome. Seeing your clients reactions is what makes it the best feeling. Definitely want the world to know that whatever I do I put my whole heart and mind into it, I go all the way! You get what you see and that is 100 percent authentically me. I make sure my trials don’t affect my work and perhaps as humans we have moments where we need a break, and that is very important to do as a creator. Surely I will always give my best.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love adventuring and having fun whether it be going into the big city or somewhere rural. If I were to have my best friend with me I would most definitely take them to the beach to get some sun and after bit up a nice lunch spot, there’s way too many to name that I love from tacos to sushi! During a week, we’d visit our wonderful national park known as the Everglades, catch an airboat and ride! Visit one of my fav smoothie places known as Robert is Here, fresh fruit and even cute farm animals to feed. Search for beautiful sunflower fields and visit nurseries filled with lovely plants from succulents to orchids. Now in Miami there’s so much variety that it can literally be a world tour of food. From Cuban cuisine to Jamaican or Thai. For the night life, there’s plenty to do, from chill vibes on a rooftop to dancing the night away at one of the many clubs. As long as you are surrounded with good people, you can have fun no matter what!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many individuals that deserve a shoutout for constantly supporting and encouraging me to continue building and creating. The one who truly initiated and encouraged me to just go ahead and make a business of my designs was a dear friend by the name of Jeanette, she herself is an amazing photographer. To all my amazing friends, who undoubtedly have been there from the beginning and push me even when I feel like what I do isn’t good enough. Sometimes we are our worst critics and good friends help us see things from a different perspective. Something as simple as a comment or share, means so much to a creator and small business owner. Last but certainly not least, my parents who have seen my ups and downs, my frustrations, my obsession to be a perfectionist, allowing our home office to become filled with my art materials and supplies, it’s endless. I am forever grateful for all of those who til this day support me, even at times where I haven’t been myself. From the bottom of my heart I say thank you.
