We had the good fortune of connecting with Goldie Moretti and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Goldie, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I feel like giving up is such a negative term, I don’t think giving up is really on the table.
For me, a key is knowing when it’s time to change course, redirect focus, or adapt.
I find that when life throws obstacles in front of our goals they’re often meant to test our determination,
Sometimes it takes a little craftiness and problem solving to work out solutions.
If you gave up you’d never get to see your intention manifest.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all hand-made collage, including elements of nature, surrealism, Sci-fi, geometric patterns and spirituality.
I personally go out to actively find my materials from book stores, thrift shops, etc. to then collage them together.
For a while I was also thrifting frames for all my pieces as well.
So the challenge in that is being able to find all the materials I need since I was out scavenging a lot of my materials.
Sometimes you find gold and other times the market is dry.
I found that my art has naturally transformed as I’ve gotten more fluid with my art style through the years.
Another huge transformation recently is also my methods for framing.
At this time I’ve learned how to build and create my own frames, creating my piece completely customized from start to finish.
This is a proud accomplishment of mine, and my way of letting collectors know they’re buying a piece that will last them forever.
Along the way I think two of the biggest lessons I’ve leaved being an artist are learning to balance art as a career, as well as allowing myself to go with the ebbs and flows of when, what, and how I create.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I live in Gainesville, a huge part of my draw towards this city was the nature.
I think some of the coolest spots to hit up here are some of great trails, where there is an abundance of active wildlife all around.
A day at the nearby springs, where you can swim or kayak is always a great option, and the Ocala National Forest is close by as well .
There are some really great food spots around here but my favorite would have to be Goldie’s in Depo Park.
They are my go to comfort meal and they’ve never disappointed.
Connected to that is a great bar called Box Car where you can go get yourself a drink while you wait for your meal to be made. My personal favorites are always their sour ales.
There are plenty of other really cool options for things to do around here though. Some great botanical gardens, antique malls and thrift shops, great food spots, and so much more.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think a huge shoutout would go to my Nana and Grandpa Al.
They are part of the reason I love nature, where I find myself feeling the most healing.
Nature is also a huge element of inspiration for my art.
My passion and love for incorporating the healing aspect of nature in my art all come from the love of nature I experienced growing up with people who inspired me.
