We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was not so much a though process. for me it was more so of an action process to start my own business. The concept behind me thinking about what I was about to get myself into was the actions I took. Let me explain. The day I took action to start my own business was only because of the action I took the day before. It took me to resign from my company which I had spent years investing in someone else’s mission. I had to walk in to the plant managers office and let him know its time for me to create my own company, create my own value, and fulfill my mission in life.
The day you take action on what and who you want to become in life is the day you start you own business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Position for Purpose (PFP) is a nonprofit public organization whose mission is to empower dedicated youth in South Florida through educational development, social growth, athletic training. PFP provides the necessary resources to help underserved and disadvantaged youth identify, pursue, and achieve goals to become successful in life.
Position For Purpose’s Identify, Pursue, and Achieve Program (I.P.A) utilizes a platform of 8 unique curriculum topics developed that will allow our members to flourish in all aspects of their academic, social and a healthy athletic life. Below you will find in detail what each of our programs provide.
Position for Purpose (PFP) believes that the mind, body, and soul need to work together for success to happen. Through our programs, the kids will focus on identifying, pursuing, and achieving to reach their goals. Each program will provide resources that will teach them how to be responsible, educated, and active citizens who find their Purpose in life and make a positive change in the world. All PFP youth are required to participate and stay dedicated in order to fulfill completion of coarse.
In 2014, I decided to dedicate my life to writing youth program curriculum for enrichment . I have seen over the many year of volunteering what the proper guidance and tools can do for the youth. Knowing that I can help take a child out of their circumstances and provide an opportunity is truly amazing. Starting an organization focused on youth enrichment has always been my passion.
Childhood memories and obstacles my friends and myself encountered inspired my vision. Though we wanted to become doctors, professional sports players, or even the President of the United States, our goals and aspirations were neglected because of limited resources and financial restraints. For example, I remember wanting to attend many educational summer programs for science and engineering and my parents not being able to afford the cost of them.
I was missing support from an organization, such as PFP, that promoted educational development, social growth, and athletic training. Through my trials and tribulations, it has helped structure the character and developed the man I am today. My life experiences have equipped me with skills and knowledge to help disadvantaged youth pursue their dreams and to acknowledge their potential. I want to be able to pass on the mindset that if you are willing to accept the challenge, the reward will be greater than imagined.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Kimberly and 2 children, Kimari (16) and Kailey (4). I was forced to grow up fast. I lost my father to respiratory failure. it was just me and my mother. I had no other choice but to become the man of the house. My loyalty to create the wealth and health environment for my family is the number 1 factor to me continuing my work in life.
My daily work is developing curriculum programs for both private and public community platforms who shares the same direction as my company to help guide the youth to achieving their success with the proper resources.
