We had the good fortune of connecting with Ifat Kent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ifat, how does your business help the community or the world?
I feel that through the classes we provide at The Nest, people make connections with other locals, moms create meaningful relationships with other moms and people get good childbirth, pregnancy and postpartum education so they can prepare themselves for what’s coming in the process of becoming parents. I hear over and over again how people made or changes their choices about birth as well as postpartum after attending a class or a workshop. And many times birthing people will tell me how helpful and empowering certain information was to them in their birth journey. I know several moms who became best friends after attending classes together. I am most proud about the community we make.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is currently 100% online. I let go of my physical center in June 2020. I have learned to love and appreciate the freedom that online classes offer to both teachers and students. We offer yoga classes for expecting parents as well as new parents with or without the baby. We offer childbirth education and support and like I mentioned before, we offer a community that is accepting and supportive. I also hold teacher trainings for people who want to become Prenatal Yoga teachers. It is never easy to have your own business but I love what I do and I have a ton of passion for it so it motivates me to keep going even when it’s really tough. Plus, I truly love supporting people. I enjoy seeing them feel good about themselves and the empowered choices they make, and every time I get an email or a private message about how I made a difference in someone’s life I’m being reminded that I am exactly where I need to be. sounds corny, but it’s the truth. I want the world to know that I will not judge anyone for the choices they make or who they are (heck, I’m a woman, I’m an Israeli Jew by birth, Divorced and I live with a woman, or you can just call it gay) I accept all but I want to make sure everybody has the information they need in order for them to make an informed decision about what they want, what they need and what they deserve. I feel like there’s a lot of fear and lack of knowledge in the birth world. Parents really don’t understand their rights. so my mission is to educate and empower everybody. I will not push my opinions on anyone and I understand birth can look very different to different people but the most important thing is to have accurate information. Education is key and we all deserve it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Easy. In south Florida we have amazing beaches. I also love taking the water taxi or a boat in fort Lauderdale or Biscayne Bay. Definitely SUP or Kayak at Oleta Park. Las Olas and south beach for food and entertainment. The boardwalk in Hollywood beach and some live music. FAT village and Wynwood for cool vibe, fun markets and art. If we have a week, I’m absolutely taking my visitor to the Keys (especially Key west). Wilton Manors has a great atmosphere as well. I love south Florida. It’s easy to find things to do (especially pre and hopefully post corona)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I would thank on my journey. From people I know and love dearly like my family who always supports me and all the way to amazing organizations and teachers such as Birthing from Within, Spinning Babies®, Lamaze international, The Dolphin Method and Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga. All great teachers that I learned so much from and certified with at certain points in my career. And of course I am deeply grateful for inspiring birth workers like Michel Odent, Penny Simkin, Ina May Gaskin, local Midwives in our community and few great OBGYNs who are amazing supporters of natural birth, patient’s rights and shared decision making. People who are always there to spread and share current evidence-based information. Great yoga teachers and spiritual leaders and myself for being open to listen, evolve and change.
