We had the good fortune of connecting with Isa Marina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isa, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Music genuinely makes me the happiest. It truly makes my heart feel a warmth and a series of emotions that are so hard to explain. When I think about the love and passion that I have for music, it brings me to tears. There have even been moments, where even the slight thought of the possibility of music not being a part of my life, to the capacity that it’s been – I can tell you right now: immediately, my entire soul felt deflated. That is why I’ve never given up on my dreams, goals, or my career. I’ve truly held on to faith.

I knew and affirmed my purpose from a very young age, the age of 5. Despite all of the storms I’ve endured, I’ve endured them knowing that my voice and journey are a key testimony to those that follow me, that you can be successful, that you can do things from your heart, with perseverance, with faith, without hurting or stepping on others, and eventually still come out on top. What is for you, no one can take away.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer-songwriter, actress, model, and the founder of my record label: Norwood Entertainment. On an artistic level, I’m a cross between the classical world and the mainstream world. My background and training in opera, in combo with my own personal family history and origins, and my own life path, have definitely given me a solid worldview and foundation that crosses all borders.

I’m a classically trained Dramatic Soprano; my voice was naturally Lyric Soprano – but as my range grew, my voice grew darker in color. My vocal range spans from F6 – C3 (3 1⁄2 octaves). I studied musical theater in high-school and can sing in a multitude of languages other than English: Spanish, Italian, and French. I’ve also co-written 95% of my songs.

On a business level, I’ve always worked hard and fought for what I’ve wanted. Nothing was handed to me, and because of this, I’ve been blessed with major experiences within the corporate world (particularly on the tech side) that have given me a business edge and holistic understanding of what the music business truly is and how to navigate it.

I’ve experienced it all, you name it, it’s happened! But, the experiences truly helped me grow and gave me knowledge that could never be taught from a book. A big part of my goal now, is to share all that I’ve learned with other up and comers that are learning and growing within the music and entertainment industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For starters, I absolutely love Miami and I’m truly enjoying this chapter of my life. I would take my bestie to Versailles for brunch, so she can enjoy some of my beautiful Cuban culture. Versailles is a staple, and it is for a reason (the Ropa Vieja there is legendary). Right after that, a tour of Calle 8 is a must.

We would for sure go to the almost-furthest point of Key Biscayne and enjoy the beach (you literally feel like you’re in the Caribbean when you’re there; the waters are super clear).

At some point, we’d definitely have to peruse through Wynwood and visit Wynwood Walls, as well as stopping by for a sweet bite at Salty Doughnut.

On a beautiful evening: Sexy Fish for dinner – it’s the most picture perfect restaurant. Of course, only if we feel up to it, your typical touristy bar-hopping evening on the strip of South Beach. I’ll stop here for now, but I could literally go on forever – there is so much to explore in this gorgeous city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I’m so grateful for the continuous support from my parents: for really taking my love of music seriously and attending every recital, live show – registering me for vocal lessons since the age of 14. I’m truly thankful for my brother: for coming with me to countless hours-long recording sessions and driving me across states for live performances.

I absolutely am super thankful for my vocal coach, David McCall: for truly helping me find my voice and working with me through the worst times and best times. Thank you for always pushing me to my fullest potential. My live band: Leo Freire and Lucas Shine, for being true superstars and team players. I’m so appreciative of their talents and camaraderie, every single day.

Lastly, I want to thank my super-close friends and anyone who’s ever given or sent me words of encouragement, everyone who purchased a live show ticket, the amazing people who’ve downloaded/streamed or purchased my music, or shared my content. To those who opened a door for me, even when no-one else believed in me: thank you! It’s all a part of my story.
